Better than the thin nose vise grip method.
Needle nose grips worked well for me ,but that can distort the retainer. So far I'm preferring this brake spring tool. Will see how this holds up?

Great tool, priced very well
Tool worked very well and the price makes this tool very attractive. Great buy, and takes the hassle out of fighting getting the retaining clip in place.

Best tool ever for Trailer brakes
I struggled using plyers for a long time…finally broke down and got this correct tool for the job. Works as expected. Wish I had gotten it sooner.

Made my brake job easier
I tried to change the brakes with a pair of pliers but couldn't get it done. I ordered this and had it the next day. Once I had the correct tool for the job I was able to finish the job. The only downside is you can't really see the cap so it took a few attempts but was able to get it to seat. Works as expected. Wish I had gotten it sooner and could have saved a day. I would recommend.

Not usable for Toyota Prius
Because the part of the tool that holds the spring clip is conical, it does not hold the clip flat. If the clip is at an angle, it cannot be put on. I ended up throwing away the tool and using mechanics pliers to grip the clips from outside, or compressing it with my fingers.

The tool instantly worked
I used it on my 2002 Ford Taurus and in about a minute, both springs were installed!

It easy to use
The inside of this tool is designed in a way that it’s difficult to hold the brake shoe springs flat when trying to press and turn them. Only slightly better than using a pair of needle nose pliers.

Useless....
Slips and doesn't hold the "hat" at all. Save yourself some dough and skip over this useless money grab tool.
