Since this purchase our syrup is crystal clear. We put the prefilter inside of the orlon filter as was suggested. When finished with a batch, ( 10 to 14 pints), we put the filter into the pan of sap that is cooking in shack. ( we put it in only as deep as the finishing syrup reached), then run some hot sap thru it with a pan till it got as clean as possible . We felt that by doing this, we weren't wasting anything. Filters. Clean very easy. I use the spray nozzle from sink with hot water. I do gently turn it inside out as to get all I can off. I have also ran it in washer with no detergent and second rinse.

My husband decided to collect sap and make our our syrup. We tried cheese cloth, coffee filters, and felt. I decided he's going about this the hard way and did a search for filters. These are a MUST! Excellent quality and usefullness. The product description said "with proper care" it will last several seasons. There wasn't any instructions that come with it and just rincing with hot water didn't clean it as well as I'd like so I actually put it in my washer with a bath towel and my homemade detergent with no fragrance. The filter came out just like the day we bought it. Good as new. Highly recommend!

my 1 syrup batch had a plastic-like off-taste after filtering through this. I do appreciate the reusability of this though (I normally just use a bunch of extra large paper coffee filters which is wasteful) so maybe I just need to wash this filter in white vinegar or baking soda a few times before I use it again. Otherwise a very well constructed product

These are huge, but work, and a fair price. Make sure not to wring the thicker filter, apparently it can cause damage to it.

Ordered these filters as they suggested they would go with filter stand.They don't,way to big.These filters are probably fine but they are meant for big operations.I have found the perfect filters for small quantities.I take Cotten dish clothes,new,wash them in hot water,no soap or bleach,fold them in fours,wet them,put them in my small filter stand,run the finished maple syrup through,directly into sterile bottles.Works perfect,beautiful clear syrup.

Only received the one filter, did not come with the two pre filters as stated in the description and in the photos.
