Bought this specifically because of the short handles. Our fireplace insert is shallow and this works perfectly. Good quality, and the stand is solid and sturdy.

Small but substantial. Good quality tools and good understated look

The size is a good fit for my stove fireplace. It sits nicely next to my modern fireplace. Also, the base has a good weight.

I like this set for its aesthetic. It has the style and sturdiness I was seeking, however I would like it to be a bit bigger for our purposes. The size was as advertised and I thought I would give it a try since it sits on a hearth and is for a woodstove, but I will be considering a taller set/ longer tools. I like the simple hooks, sturdy stand and ease of use. Its a cute little set.

The quality is really nice. We have a small apartment, and it is a functional and beautiful addition to out hearth. I am so glad I went with this set. I was sorry it did not have tongs, but the little rake shaped hearth tool and the nice shape of the poker make it still easy to manipulate logs in the fire. I hope someday to have a small woodstove, and I will be able to use it for that also.

In 1991 I purchased a Pilgram Compact Tool Set (identical to the current model) - when the foundry was located in Richmond, CA as I recall. I recently purchased the current model to accomodate a larger and more frequently used fireplace. It was easy to assemble, arrived promptly, and was well-packaged. But when comparing the tools to the 1991 version, they seemed less substantial: the theaded pieces were not well- machined, the welded or joined parts looked less finished than the 1991 tools. So I weighed each tool set and found the following: The 2019 model is over two pounds lighter than the 1991 tool set: 1991 = 12.5 pounds; 2019 = 10 pounds. Losing over two pounds is suggestive of less substantial material being used. Also note that my weight calculation of 10 pounds for the current model differs from the advertised weight of 13 pounds. That said, the current model is of reasonable quality but not comparable to the earlier model and only time will tell if the tool set will hold up as well as the 1991 set. You should also know that I purchased the current tool set at a substantially reduced price as a returned item to Amazon. At full price I'm not certain I would consider it value for money - the manufacturing is not of the same historical quality and the tool set is likely not produced domestically. Pilgrim ought to consider producing more domestically and to its former standard.

Might not be your cup of tea if you want polished brass finishes and not if you think you only need a small set for and actual fire place. For a wood burning stove that is small or medium size these tools are stout and exactly what you need.

This is robust and handsome set of fireplace tools. It came delivered in a flat pack, which required the stand to be assembled, but very easy to do. I wanted something chunkier than the usual delicate looking fire tools to go with my contemporary glass door fireplace, so this fit the bill perfectly. But they would also look just as good beside a traditional fireplace. I have used all the tools and they are a good weight (but not heavy) and work well.

Nice size for a small fireplace while still being solid built.

Well made. Do the job. Don’t need anything larger.

Wanted something well-made, simple and compact to use with our Stuv compact woodstove in our small cabin. This is perfect.
