We've had such a tough year, going through the gambit of evaluations, determining a couple of diagnosis'. I've been reading so many books, trying to learn on how to be a stronger parent to help my son succeed. I identified the most with the words written in this book, and I am so thankful that I read it. Sadly, I just don't think there are enough "services" to help gifted kids, or enough training in our general educational systems. Special schools are so expensive, and its sad, because these kids need and deserve every opportunity to succeed. They're a rare breed, mine with an IQ of 153, I'm told one in every one thousand people exist with an IQ that high. But we keep focusing on all the quirky behaviors that surround his intensity. He just doesn't fit into the normal box that society expects him too. With the appropriate counselling help gifted children have the ability to recognise the signs and learn to control their frustration episodes. Unfortunately often defining this neurological sympton by a name such as Autism or Asperges brcomes a negativeconitation that some people use to brutilise thegifted person concerned, when they react differently from other people i a give learning ivironment. It is important that teacher who are fortnate to have gifted children in their classrooms understand the source of their students intellectual frustration and encourage them to emphatically control that frustration for the benifi tof the whole class.
