Very interesting book! Wasn't sure about reading this book but glad that I did! Very informative! And I remember using "pay phones" so that made it even more intriguing~!

I found this book fascinating. On the one hand, it's both a history of the phone booth -- how it evolved as a technology and became ubiquitous, only to begin to disappear (or will it?). On the other hand, the book is a cultural analysis -- examining how the phone booth has played a captivating role in our imaginations in films like The Matrix and in the origin of Superman. The book moves at a quick pace. It's filled with scenes and descriptions that will show you a whole new story about the phone booth.Highly recommended!

By turns informative, elegiac, playful and provocative, Kelly's book makes plain just how integral this simple object has been to our domestic and public spaces since the early 20th century. At the same time, she makes it clear just how far we've changed that such a thing is no longer. Filled with questions of privacy and longing, and thoroughly enjoyable throughout, this is easily one of the best books of nonfiction I've read this year.
