One of my favorite films
"Secondhand Lions" is a heartwarming film that will leave you feeling uplifted and nostalgic. The story revolves around Walter, a young boy who is sent to live with his two eccentric great-uncles, played by Michael Caine and Robert Duvall. As Walter gets to know his great-uncles, he learns about their incredible adventures and the secrets of their past. The acting in this film is outstanding, with both Caine and Duvall delivering memorable performances. The chemistry between the two actors is palpable, and their on-screen banter is both hilarious and touching. The young actor playing Walter, Haley Joel Osment, also delivers a strong performance as the curious and impressionable protagonist. The film is a perfect blend of humor, adventure, and emotion. It touches on themes of family, love, and loss, making it a relatable and heartwarming story for all ages. The beautiful cinematography and music also add to the overall ambiance of the film.Overall, "Secondhand Lions" is a must-watch film that will leave you feeling inspired and grateful for the memories and experiences that shape us

Husband LOVED it
This was a cute movie.... I watched it with my husband who watched it twice in the same day! It had a decent storyline and the characters were relatable. Although, I did want to yell at mom more than once. There were a few hilarious moments and of course, a few extremely sad moments. All the acting was done well.

Entertaining, Wholesome
I've rented this several times and I saw it on one of those social media sites I decided it's time to own my own copy of it. If you've never seen this movie, I highly recommend it. It has a good story line and the actors, even the child does a wonderful job of bringing this movie realism and heart felt feelings.

A feel-ggod film with plenty of action, laughs and rooting for our heroes. Superbly ACTED.
A gripping yarn of adventure, romance, faithfulness, deceit and honour. The stars of the film, Michael Caine and Robert Duvall, are as quirky as they come but they engage from the moment they appear on the screen. There is no bad language, no sexual context or gratuitous violence but there is plenty to laugh about, cheer for and to get one's teeth into. A film to watch alone or with the whole family and / or friends..It shows that one does not have to be boring to lead a good life: our heroes have lived life to the full and their outlook on life is...well, full of zest and joy. Crazy? Oh yes. But you'll be rooting for them every step of the way. Lovely ending. Caine and Duvall are simply superb; Osment is good but the two old-timers steal the show.I have recommended it to several friends and they have all loved it. Do yourself and favour and watch it.One of my favourite films of all time.

A great feel-good film
This is basically the story of a young boy named Walter whose feckless mother, in the summer of 1962, dumps him on her two grumpy old uncles in the hope he'll find out where they've stashed their rumoured millions. Between snippets of their crazy lives, shooting at salesmen and impulse-purchasing random stuff (including a lion), Walter learns their story, which is told in fairytale-like flashbacks reminiscent of the Princess Bride in that it portrays how Walter imagines it, rather than as it actually was. In the end he's caught between two different and equally plausible (or implausible) stories and has to decide which one he believes and what kind of man he himself wants to be.I bought this DVD for my brother, who discovered it because of Travis Willingham's story about getting accidentally, but repeatedly punched in the face by Robert Duvall. To be honest, I wasn't really expecting much, but this film is actually quite brilliant. It's lighthearted, well-paced and funny, with an almost fairytale feeling at times. It's very well acted, too; Duvall, Caine and Osment are pretty perfectly balanced and believable throughout despite the often ridiculous scenarios, and the film was even shot sequentially due to Osment's voice breaking. There's no real bad language and the violence is fairly minor; mostly suggested rather than shown (except for Travis's bloody nose). So if you're looking for a light, feel-good film then this is a great choice.

Good, old-fashioned family entertainment
A very charming film: Young Walter (Haley Joel Osment) is sent to live with two elderly, eccentric uncles, Garth (Michael Caine - not my favourite actor but good in this) and Hub (Robert Duval - very good) by his trailer-trash mother, Mae (really excellently portrayed by Kyra Sedgwick) so that she can go and enjoy herself. She has a hidden agenda; the two uncles are allegedly millionaires and sleazy Mae (and her equally appalling boyfriend) want to get their hands on some of the loot and she wants Walter to find out where it's stashed. But that's the framework of the plot; in-between times, the uncles have their own dynamic way of dealing with annoying travelling salesmen, seedy relatives and obstreperous young tearaways. And then there's very clever flashbacks of their exciting lives during and after the First World War in the Middle East which involves the sinister Sheikh (a suitably sneering Adam Ozturk) plus Princess Jasmine (glamorous Emmanuelle Vaugier) - and Jasmine just happens to be the name bestowed on the secondhand lion. And there's lots of dogs, lots of laughs and lots of homespun philosophy - a well-acted, thoroughly enjoyable film for just about everybody.

Light-hearted, family - fun.
Very entertaining film starring Robert Duvall, Michael Caine and young Haley Joel Osment. Caine and Duvall play Osments 2 Uncles. who he goes to stay with - well actually his man-chasing mother, played by the lovely Kyra Sedgewick, aka. Mrs Kevin Bacon dumps him on the uncles who at first resent this but after a short-time they see that the boy isn't all bad and they take to him readily, and are more like surrogate Fathers, taking time to explain to him the good, the bad and the downright ugliness of the REAL world, which Caine and Duvall NOW make every attempt to avoid contact with, having NO telephone, NO Television and NO mod-cons! Caines accent leaves a lot to be desired of course BUT THIS should NOT put you off watching a quite funny film.
