good phone
It is a good phone but the optical fingerprint reader is not as good as other types of fingerprint readers. It can be pretty annoying sometimes especially if you put a screen protector on your phone.Update: if you do not use a screen protector, the finger print works perfectly. Generally it is a very good phone.

Best phone I've phone in years
It's pretty hard to find a decent phone at a decent price in recent years. All the budget phone manufacturers have decided they want to charge flagship prices (such as OnePlus).Spending near £1000 on a phone is flat out insane. Even if it is made of gold and outperforms anything else on the market all it takes is slippery fingers, a green-eyed thief, or software obsolescence and you have a very expensive brick.Until recently, I exclusively used Oneplus, or Nexus phones as they offered the best spec at the best price, and it didn't hurt as much to have to dispose of them after security updates ceased.I tried out a Samsung phone before (S3) and it cost me double the price, but it lasted 2 years, crashing frequently (Samsung sucked at software back then). But during my time with it, the performance was great and the camera was incredible.I decided to try and find the best-priced phones with the best cameras and discovered the Nexus successors, the Pixel range. Sadly they weren't that cheap, but they offered years of support, so buying a year-old model meant a good saving and just as much support as a new phone. Now they offer an "a" range which are even better. Newer releases but mid-range prices same camera and high quality photos and 3 years of support. They're a good option, however the pixel 4a is barely any differently specced than the pixel 2 and yet the 3 year support has now ended. So you're essentially paying £350 for the same phone to get 3 years of the same experience. Then I discovered the Samsung "A" series. Some Galaxy A phones are more tempting than others, but the A51 5G is a winner. Great camera, great battery, great design, in-screen fingerprint reader which works incredibly. Lots of storage. Same 3 years support. Similarly priced to the pixel 4a (£370) this is a great competitor, but decider is the software.Ironically the software on the Galaxy A51 5g beats the software on the Pixel phones (Ironic because software ruined the Samsung S3 and forced me to move to Google Nexus phones).Google has been crippling its Android OS for the past few years, and instead of adding new functionality is instead of rushing to remove as much as they can. One example is call recording which has been available with Android since its launch over ten years ago. Google removed it a couple of years ago now, and Samsung added it back into their software. So buy the Samsung Galaxy A51 5G for the best android experience you can get at the best price around. A very capable, great spec mid-range phone at a sensible mid-range price, 3 years of support, and no loss of functionality. My one negative is that on my phone the microphone port doesn't work. I can use headphones but can't use a microphone, this kills taking calls or using apps with a microphone for me whilst using a headset. Very frustrating. One other thing to mention is I would prefer if the phone was shorter. It has a bizarre 20:9 aspect ratio, which makes it narrow and very tall. This means that trying to touch the notification bar or any controls at the top of the screen is a pain. It also means the video doesn't fit properly and either needs to be cropped and zoomed or screenspace lost. I have no idea why, If it ws 1 cm shorter It'd be the perfect size.

Not again, it broke down in just 12 months
I have been using Samsung phones (S series) for more than 10 yrs and it always worked but this is a really bad product which broke down in about 12 months of use. I have moved to iPhone now...not coming back again to Android/Samsung.
