Great Gate But Requires Supervision
I got the Richelle Freestanding Pet Gate HL because my 65 lb dog had surgery & needed to be confined to a small area in the house during recovery. When adjusted to its longest length possible, the entire gate measures 70 inches long. The height of this gate is exactly 27 1/2 inches. I needed the HL because I have a large breed dog.My dog is most definitely strong enough to push this gate out on the ends or knock it over. Thankfully my dog has not done this but you can secure each end with a bungee cord or rope if your dog tries to push it, to add extra stability. The gate itself is pretty sturdy. It’s made of wood & has “feet” on each end to help it stand freely. I’m only 5’2” & I can pick this gate up & move it from room to room when needed, but it does have a little weight to it. I can also step over it, but it’s not safe to do that so I always pick up one end to get in & out. I wish the gate had an opening for a door. That would make this gate even better. But for my purposes, the gate is working out well. One thing I have to say is all dogs need to be monitored when using gates like this. I would not feel comfortable leaving my dog behind this gate home alone. The gate would never hold him. This gate requires supervision. It’s a nice deterrent & keeps the dog confined for the most part but if you turn your back for long the dog will find a way out.I definitely recommend this gate & Im very satisfied with the purchase.

Great gate.
I have gone through several pressure gates as well as free standing gates prior to settling upon the Richell Freestanding Pet Gate.My issues with pressure or wall mounted gates lie in the fact that I have an enlarged opening to my living room. These gates advertise that they fit that width with extension pieces but those extension pieces add instability to gate or create a "cheap" looking gate in an area that commands visual attention. The Richell is a visually appealing gate. It is stable for a free standing gate. I ordered the extra-large gate as I have three labradors I attempted to keep separated. This gate is high enough that they do not job yet low enough for me to step over. The weight is not too terribly much and so most times I slide the gate to the side to walk into the room.My only issue lies in the fact the gates wood is cracked in several sections. I am not sure if it is a quality issue or just how Amazon ships these gates as the metallic pressure/wall-mounted gates I ordered in the past came with bent pieces from shipment. I guess the oversized package and its awkwardness must make it difficult for UPS to transport. The gate was a synch to put together and has held up well through several months of use now.Overall, a great product. It does the job and does it well. Visually appealing and, even with the wood cracking in several areas, the gates durability to everyday use is holding up well. Worth the extra money I had to spring for this gate (At triple the cost of other gates)

WITH DRAWER SLIDES IT OPENS AND CLOSES!
Bought this gate for our kitchen because we have a sneaky counter surfing dog. When the gate was assembled as instructed it would not open, we had to climb over it or move the whole gate. It was several months before the gate was knocked over and a hinge became loose. We decided to modify the gate to allow it to open and close. We purchased telescoping drawer slides from HDepot, placed them at the top and bottom of the gate and it worked like a charm. The gate stays up, the dog stays out and it's so much easier to get into the kitchen. I think the gate is improved with the modification. The gate is spanning a 68.5" wide opening and it's 27.5" high and is still free standing. If it were wider I'm not confident the gate would be stable without anchoring it to a wall or cabinet. Also, it's helpful that our dog (38lb medium build) doesn't jump up on it.

Great movable pet gate
When I moved into a new ultra modern looking house with my beagle, I wanted to get a gate for the stairs that wouldn't be a permanent fixture like at the old house. It wasn't going to work with the metal stair rails in the new house, and the old gate I had did a number on the paint of the walls. The Richell Freestanding Pet Gate was a perfect solution, as it didn't attach to the wall, even by friction. It's tall enough so that my 13" beagle can't jump over it and go upstairs while we're away. It's light enough that it's easy to move and fold up. The only thing that would make this better is if it had an easier way to collapse so that it wasn't always the same width. If you want to make it narrower either for a different spot or just for storage, you have to remove the screws that hold it in place. The screws have many holes, though, so you can vary the width.

Great UNTIL IT BROKE
After doing a lot of online research, I purchased the white gate in size "Large/High" and it did exactly what I expected it to do - keep my toddler out of areas where standard pressure/hardware mounted gates did not work (for ex, between the kitchen and family room, where the opening had counter corners on each side). I also like that the gate is adjustable and decent looking. It is sturdy but not too heavy to be moved a few times a day. Overall, I was happy with this purchase UNTIL IT BROKE. 3 of the 4 (very small) metal hinges on the two ends (that hold the gate up) have fallen off. Notwithstanding that I am about a week past the 90-day warrantee, I am not aware of a method for contacting the manufacturer.

The gate is no match for a 7lbs dog
The gate is great! However, with my luck, my 7lbs shih-poo was able to scale it. If you have a dog whom isn’t adventurous, I would recommend this.On the other hand, as a mother, this for me would be a safety issue since the gate isn’t secured. And god forbid if your child begins to learn how to climb or even just how to stand up.

Finally! A free standing gate that actually works!
Finally found a gate that will work for my dogs! I placed this at the top of my very wide and weird angled entry way stairs. I had purchased about 4 other gates before this one that were `stand alone` gates. This gate is sturdy/strong enough to keep my rottweiler (65lbs) and 3 small dogs (combined weight of 18 pounds) contained. All the other gates I purchased my dogs figured out within the hour that they could use their noses to pull it towards themselves or simply just push it out of the way. This one does not budge because of the weight and the width of the feet. I have a 4lb maltese and she does not fit between the bars so if this is an issue for you don't worry with this gate. That being said it definitely is on the wider side and is not convenient to "open" or "slide" to gain access. My husband and I just step over it holding on to our handrail. But it does the job as the gate keeper. I have had it for 2 weeks now and still have the dogs contained. I hope this helps someone else!

Functions well but quality is lacking
We used it to block our fireplace from toddler. Works great but came with small cracks and defects.

Wrong color
I've purchased the white gate but received the brown one. It seems solid, though.

Good baby protection for fireplace
I know this meant for pets but we are using this as a "baby gate" protection around our gas fireplace. Note that there are two heights available; this is the taller one and the other is shorter. If you want to use this for child protection; I recommend the taller model. It was easy to adjust and has worked very well. Side note - the glass on front of a gas fireplace heats up to 200°C (400°F).
