You can have soft, real butter by using a crock like this Butter Bell. It is kept outside the refrigerator and keeps the butter spreadable without rancidity (assuming you use it up in a few weeks?). You take a stick of butter, let it soften a little outside the refrigerator, then squish it into the top part of the Bell. You put a third of a cup of cold water in the bottom, and it acts like a seal to keep the air out, as I understand it. Apparently you don't have to put cold water in it everyday, although I renew the cold water every few days. It has worked well so far. No more putting hard chunks of butter on my morning toast!

Love Love Love! The ceramic dish is made well and looks amazing on my kitchen counter. It holds one stick of butter and keeps well. We use within 7 days and have had no issues with the butter spoiling. Follow directions and you’ll have soft well preserved butter.

I like to have soft butter and struggle in the summer to keep it on the counter. This works great. I purchased the blue stripe. It's fun and a great shade of blue.

I just got this butter crock. I love this butter crock. I just hope it keeps the butter fresh. It says to pour cold water in it every three days when leaving out on the counter. I think the crock is a little pricey, but I still love what it's made out of.

I like to make my own butter and like the old fashioned way of keeping it in one of these. I've had mine for about a year now. I don't use it all the time, but when I do, it is handy. I find that if I know I'm not going to be using butter for a few days, i can still put this in the refrigerator to keep the butter fresh longer. But then I have to remember to take it out several hours before I need to use the butter again. One thing I might suggest to the manufacturer is to bevel or taper the edges of the lid so it stays centered. Mine often slides just off center and looks a little weird when it does.

Lifting a slippery lid from a butter dish can be a risky proposition and annoying as all get out. I often left the butter uncovered to avoid it. After several trial and errors with different butter dishes, I read a review of this butter bell in a cooking newsletter and after browsing a large selection of colors and designs I bought this one. It’s a bargain because I no longer a worry about the lid slipping out of my hand. The bonus is it looks so nice on my kitchen counter and my butter no longer gets too soft to stay on a knife or too hard to spread.

This looks lovely. Be aware that it holds just 1/4 pound of butter but takes up as much space on your table as brands that hold twice as much.

It is one of the best things I have ever bought for the kitchen, it is just the right size for the two of us, the butter stays soft and fresh. I change the water each morning after doing breakfast as then I don't have to think when did I do it last. Over the last couple of days the weather has had a change for the better but the butter has stayed perfect. It's a great invention. My only downside is the colour I really wanted was out of stock but this still looks fine on my work top.

We use it every day. Butter doesn't sour or yellow outside of the fridge. Would purchase this for friends as a present.
