John Locke's views on a meddling government
I thought that the preface could have been written to surmount the many challenges related to the issues of the 17th century with more clarity and then related to the present. It's very interesting material, nevertheless. I was particularly curious about Locke's opinions on what he calls a meddling government. Governments today suffer from an ideology that believes bigger, mismanaged government projects are their goal. Their primary motivation is to be reelected. Meddling has resulted in massive debt, printing cash and higher taxes. Yet, programs like Medicare, Social Security, Military spending, bridges to nowhere, the post office are riddled in total chaos that includes enormous unfunded pension costs, programs fraught with abuse and fraud, It's frightfully apparent that any program with oversight of the government is mismanaged from the outset and an ongoing burden on taxpayers. Locke’s foresight and concerns are a testimony to the age old problems of today.

John Locke shouldn't need an introduction. Without going into an analysis of his work, let's just say it should be required reading though I'm sure most colleges are dropping writers of this era for more politically correct ones.

Nice selection, no treatises on government in sight
Product was in perfect condition. It has quite a selection of Locke's essays, but the two treatises on government are conspicuously absent. Not that it mattered to me since I own a copy of the second one (the only one I needed for class) anyway.

True Meaning of Separation of Church and State
Want to know how perverted the meaning of the term "separation of church and state..." has become, it's in this book. John Locke's poignant philosophical explanations of the inter-relation between natural and civil law,the limits of church and government authority and more, written in the 17th century are a refreshing rather than antiquated reminder of what "good governance" really means to a free people.
