Sounds Amazing! App is Crap!
I was debating between the Bose SoundTouch 300 and the Sonos Playbar. Bose sound quality was incredible, but the wireless connectivity of Sonos was appealing. The prices on either was really hard to swallow. Then a Best Buy rep showed me the Definitive Technology W Studio/W Studio Micro and I was impressed. It sounded amazing, not as good as Bose, but better than Sonos. They also have an open source wireless connectivity. I felt like it was a good middle ground option. I felt a little bad for purchasing on Amazon, but the prices here were better. There are three apps to use. The "Definitive Technology" and "Play-Fi" apps serve the same purpose; connect speakers to the wifi and stream music. There is functionality to control the volume, but not to change the source. It looks like their focus is the Play-Fi app since that is the app for other speaker brands to use too; I see more updates for Play-Fi. The "Definitive Utility" app is suppose to be the remote app where you can control the volume or switch inputs, but the buttons do not show up.PROS:Speakers sound amazing!CONS:Functionalities are not in one "all-in-one" app. Apps are not designed well and unintuitive. The "Definitive Utility" app is useless. For real their apps are rated 1-2 stars on the Apple App Store. Some tips for future owners...1. Holding down the wifi button behind the speakers for 15 seconds will reset your speaker. For some reason this was not in the manual nor was it on their site. Googling did not reveal this important info either. I had to call in to find this out.2. If you set up surround sound on rear speakers they must be connected to 5 GHz, otherwise the setup will fail. If you have the Netgear Orbi router the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz is combined and not separatable. You will need to go in into your advance options and disable the 2.4 GHz to ensure your speaker connect to the 5GHz when setting up.Overall I can see why some people have issues with the DT Wireless Collection. You need to be somewhat tech savvy, have patience for the setup, and there needs to be some understanding with their apps (hopefully they will do a complete overhaul). I am very, very happy with my purchase and believe you will be too only if you can get thorough these hurdles.

This is for the W Studio Micro Ultra-Slim Wireless Sound Bar and Subwoofer- Fixing the Loud Squeal
This is an update from a prior review. The soundbar began to emit an unrelenting high-pitched squeal. I emailed and called Definitive Technology 4-16 and followed it up on 4-21. On 4-25 they emailed back and provided instructions of how to reset the firmware (MCU) and included the files.I first formatted a flashdrive and unzipped the contents to it. Next problem: the slot on the back is so tight you can't fit a thumb drive. Luckily I had a USB extension cord and could plug that it. Please note that you should format your drive on a Windows Machine or insure that it is FAT32 formatted. After following the instructions provided the speaker began to function normally again.I assumed I would have to landfill the system and I'm glad to have been able to fix it.So -1 star for having a designflaw for the USB and for waiting 9 days to get back to me, but overall I'm satisfied.

and love them soooo much
I am the fan of definitive tech. I own two W9s and two W7s at home, and love them soooo much. Recently, I purchased the W studio micro and expect it'll work as I expected. Well, not bad at this price for the purposes of music and movie. There are some features I think are able to be improved.-Integration with TV-I have a 70" Sharp Smart TV at home hooked up an apple TV (gen 4) and set-up box. The totals are 4 remotes including this soundbar one on table. This soundbar is not intgrated with TV. In other words, you have to mute the TV, otherwise you'll get two audio outputs (TV & soundbar) simultaneously. In addition, I am not able to control the soundbar's volume through TV remote and I know it is just an inherent problem for all kinds of soundbars and receiver.-Bluetooth support--Air play support-All in all, it is a great buy for this price range. I do believe the manufacturer can improved these features in the next gen. product.

Wait until it its on sale for $499
Wait until it its on sale for $499. Not worth $899. Very powerful subwoofer (room is 19x21) which is great for movies but I have to turn it down (individual sub volume on remote) to watch the news. A newer Direct TV Genie remote (not an older one as far as I know) will control this unit's volume but not the power so you have to keep its remote nearby (if you want to turn it off or to control the sub or center channel). As stated in other reviews, after hooking this up to your Wi-Fi (if you want to stream music) it will take 10-15 minutes to update the firmware (make sure to leave the unit on). No problem syncing up the sub which was 17 feet away. I found that placing the sub in a corner, adjusting the sub to -2, center +3 with the TV sound set to PCM (allowing the sound bar to decode) with Samsung TV's DTS Neo 2:5 Audio Mode a good fit or otherwise Bitmap with Dolby.
