Fit, Form, Function: Conclusion.
Fit: This is a well made brewer. I have used it now 7 times to make the “concentrate”, and each time, but one, it made the smoothest coffee, with little to no sediment, I have ever had. I even sped the process up twice by stirring the grounds vigorously during the brewing process, to no ill effect. the filter and lid showed no sign of loosening. The Ball lid stayed inside the nicely made wooden lid cover showing no signs of loosening.Form: What can you say, it is a Ball Jar, a company that has been making this product since 1888, These jars have been used for storage of all kinds since the first day they were sold, this looks to be a new, and original use. It looks good on the frig shelf, with it’s robust dark liquid begging for consumption.Function: The only issue I had was when I used my Pulse grinder to grind my own coffee from beans, was that I had chunks of bean that were too large, and some that went to dust that was too fine. The too large probably did not give up its wonderful essence completely, while the dusty particles went through the mesh of the filter. That turned out to make little difference in the brew itself, all I did was let it go a little longer, and the powdered coffee settled nicely and I had a good Espresso concentrate, or Italian Dark, or Dark French roast. The brewer made all varieties equally well, with a total lack of bitterness. Conclusion: It operates superbly, looking good the whole time, and making one of the best cups I have ever had. All in all, well worth the money. All you have to do in the morning is pour it into a cup and dilute it, or not, to the flavor you want. I have had it cold, delicious, and hot with milk, sugar and 72% dark chocolate, just a good smooth, non bitter cup of better than (insert coffee house name here) coffee.

Simple to use, easy to clean
I have been using the Mason Jar Filter for several weeks now. It's VERY easy to use. Fast cleanup. The mesh is so fine that grounds do not escape. However, down at the bottom of the jar, there will be the finest layer of residue which reminds me of Turkish coffee. It is certainly no problem and I usually gently shake the jar before I pour out what I need to incorporate it into the mix. I have been using 1 cup of beans (decaf for me), ground coarsly, with a soak time of 48 hours. I like my coffee strong. The coffe you use absolutely does make a difference in the flavor. My fist week I used a light roast, which tasted kind of fruity. I was not that happy. Then I changed to a dark roast and it's very rich and smooth tasting. It's the kind of thing that you may have to experiment with to get it exactly like you like it. I like it all so much, I will be ordering the larger size jar and filter as well so that I can make more at one time. Especially handy for when visitors are coming. I really like that all I have to do is warm up some concentrate, add hot water, and it's all ready. I am very pleased.

Update: A few problems, but overall excellent product
Update: So now that I've spent more time with this product, the downsides have been less impactful. It's easy and with minimal compared to standard pour-over solutions, and tastes a lot smoother. The cracks in the jar haven't lead to shattering just yet, but I do wish it hadn't come this way, though it being a pretty standard type of jar means I can replace it easliy if needed. The lid has gotten better with leaking, it appears that the sealing coating on the lid was poorly applied, but if I jimmy it carefully while screwing shut, it seems to seal a lot better. It could also be the wood glued on that warped the lid a bit, I'm not quite sure. Im also a bit obsessive with keeping things clean, and that's problematic with the super absobant wood, I overall would have preferred just a normal lid.So, its not perfect, and the cons force me to stop short of 5 stars, but with how conveniently it has enabled my coffee habit, it deserved an update.Original review:I really wanted and expected to like this product. The idea is simple and easy, and the review lead me to believe I found a winner. Unfortunately I can't recommend it. I finally got to using it today and I discovered that the cap leaks no matter how hard I tighten it, even to the point of being difficult to reopen. While trying to figure out what was going on, I discovered that the jar has several hair line cracks extending horizontally and vertically along the entire width and length of the bottle. I will need to find another container to store the coffee in after it's extracted, and I'm not confident how long the glass part will last me even then.

A great, simple, easy way for cold brew coffee!
Easy to use, great cold brew coffee! I followed the included directions for measuring, carefully filled it with water so as to not shake the grounds, left the jar on the counter for around 12 hours, then poured me a glass. It came our strong as I'd hoped. So I diluted it in the glass with water by guessing the strength I wanted and it turned out perfect (about 2 parts coffee to 1 part water). The jar sits in the fridge until I am ready for a glass. Although it calls for course ground, I only had drip grind when I made the first jar and there were no problems at all, no grounds or sediment that I noticed. The jar is of course a Mason jar so it is tough. The screw top is big so it is easy to grip and seals the Mason Jar lid perfectly. The stainless steel screen insert is sturdy and fits perfectly also. All in all, a great purchase. No drama, no challenge, no confusion, just an easy and convenient way to make your own home cold brew coffee!
