A highly recommended. A great lift, for any use, within its weight range.
This is targeted for hunters but my use is a bit different. The 40" tire on a dual deadlock wheel is too heavy for me to lift up and mount on the tire carrier of my Jeep by myself. I could do it with the 37" tires but not the 40". Usually there is somebody around that could help but not always. My solution is to rig a hook (out of 1/2" cold rolled rod) that extends a couple feet above the mounted tire. Hook the lift onto it and with a rope through the tire hoist up up to the proper height and slide it onto the studs. It works very well for this. I must say I am impressed with the unit. The rope is not that super slippery poly stuff but feels very good in the hand. I was a little concerned about the lock until I understood how it worked. At first I thought the arm acted upon a catch mechanism in one of the wheels; but I was wrong. The rope actually catches on the internal wedge of the lock levers loop itself and is quite effective and very simple. When pulling a load up and then moving to the lock position you only loose about 1/2" of height. The quality of the metal and clips seems very good. For hunters who intend on using it for game the gambrel seems to be stout and is welded nicely.

Incredible value
This is an incredible deal. You cannot find a better quality pulley setup for this price, and it even comes with the rope and gambrel. The rope is decent quality, and the gambrel is superb quality. The gambrel is different than the one pictured...it comes with a few more reinforcements and welds. It is better than the one pictured. I use the pulley to lift deers, hogs, and other big game I cannot lift myself or with my hunting buddy into the bed of my lifted UTV. I just use the rope, not the gambrel to lift them into the bed, and it works great. Brake holds strong and is easy to use. I keep this in my UTV just for this purpose, and have yet to use it for cleaning. I have also used it to lift heavy items into the UTV and to help pull my UTV out of mud hole. So many uses for this thing.

Just what you want!
As a hunter, this is everything that you need, IT'S not lightweight, so that heavy Buck isn't enough to overload this! The rope is very long! The framework is top quality steal with enamel paint and it works smoothly! I use this too lift a framework for my Lawnmower during non hunting season, my zero turn mower has a framework with a mower cloth cover that I lift up and down with one arm yet the framework is not light, this worked out great for both my needs! So eve if you're not a hunter, but wanted to lift something that i heavier than you want to lift often, this at $25 is unbelievable good deal! Get yours today!

More Heavy duty than I had expected
I have yet to use this but what I can tell you is this... My dad has one. I am not sure what he paid for it but his is way lighter duty that this one and his works great. I was pleasantly surprised. I will use this to hang my deer but the real reason I purchased it was to help lift my cub cadet tractor so I could get to the blades and belts. This will surely handle that load. This is a definite buy for this price. You won't be disappointed in the quality for an inexpensive solution to lifting heavy objects.

Good enough.
Nice little system. I purchased mine to use as a light duty hoist to aide in hoisting and holding a rooftop cargo box up to the ceiling of my garage. At that it performs splendidly. The cable brake system is nice and simple. It pinches the rope to hold it in place. This is not something I would set and expect to leave holding a load for an extended period of time. But it will definitely do the trick to hang on to the cable for a short while. I really like the included carabiner shackles that are present on both ends of the hoist. These clips have a notched but not quite locking gate. I expect they are up for the task. The gambrel attachment, while not anything for which I have a use, appears to be well made and capable of handling what a weekend hunter might throw at it. The only thing I find some cause to complain about are the pulley sheaves. There are two problems. First, these are constructed of plastic and are by no means the final word in terms of quality componentry. One of the sheaves on my unit has a small burr that looks like it might knick the rope and hasten its demise. I'll probably smooth it out with some high grit sandpaper and call it a day. Second, there is quite a bit of friction from the sheaves to their axel. This undoubtedly causes one to need more force when hoisting. But, what does one expect when we're twenty five bucks. All told I think it worth the price but definitely not something I'd expect to bequeath.

I use the hoist for everything.
Purchased it to hang my deer. The Pully system works well enough for one person to house up a large deer by themselves, and it locks easily into place. Now I use it to hoist up my lawnmower so I can sharpen the blades on it (Yes I do use a jack stand before I crawl under it). But the Pully is strong enough that I can hoist up the mower without assistance.

Most of it is pretty darn heavy
I did not buy this for hanging deer. I built a 9'x8' shelf in my garage and established it at about 4.5 feet so a car's nose could go under it, but there would still be sufficient room to store meaningful items on top of it (like snow blowers, lawn mowers, generators, etc...). The problem is getting the seasonal equipment onto the shelf. Most of it is pretty darn heavy. I initially looked into some block & tackle systems but was shocked at the prices for what I considered very modest quality. I finally settled on this as a lift system. I was about a third the cost of the cheapest block & tackle and better quality. I use the hangar part that you affix the deer legs to as the lifting hook and bolted the rest to the ceiling just a few inches out from the shelf. Using this system, I can lift by myself a 150 pound snowthrower 4.5 feet into the air and onto the shelf I made for the season once spring arrives. Bicycles, lawn mowers, BBQ, etc... works great and much more economical than the pulley systems being sold today.

Parfait pour moi.

Well made heavy duty gambrel, works well, would recommend using gloves when lifting carcasses as rope is very thin and can burn your hands if your not careful. But I have recommended this product twice as good value for money.

It is working as advertised. I needed 12 to 14' height instead of 9', so instead of having the rope going 5 times up and down, I modified the path to get 3 times instead of 5 and it met my needs. I am using it to lift various items (like tires, boxes, patio furniture) on a mezzanine in my garage. I would have preferred a system pressing on the rope instead of squeezing it to hold the weight, but since I am not using it daily it is working well for me and the rope hasn't been showing any signs of wear and tear.
