Inspection and Gaging (Volume 1)

Overall importance and concepts in a very readable format.
I hunt and spend for the best, most direct information, for all my engineering references. This one fits that description. Good engineering focuses on relevant fundamental principles being laid out and followed. This book gives clear and direct presentation of the fundamental principles of inspection and gaging that are necessary to ensure quality, and expose failure. This is often neglected by engineers but is essential for their development as genuine engineers and not in name and degree only. I highly recommend this book, as the best and the most readable on these subjects.

Good but Very Dated
Inspection and Gaging starts with a good introduction to the job of an inspector, specifications and tolerances. It continues with descriptions of basic procedures and tools. All of this information is still valid and useful. However, the 1987 copyright becomes clear very soon after the introductory material. The last half of the book is woefully outdated, relying almost entirely on dial indicators. Digital indicators are too new for inclusion, and electronic CMM's were brand new at the time this book was written. You'll probably find a newer book more helpful.

Good read
I have a number of pieces of inspection and gauging equipment. Using them is no problem but the smaller you want to measure the more you need to know. This is a good book, easy to read and detailed clear information. Certainly worth buying if you really want to know what you are doing and follow a tried and tested way to do it.
