If you want to run a solid Oculus link with VR and be able to power it while you use it. You gotta get this card. I was trying to get away with not buying one and just charge my headset and plug it into a USB power jack and see how long it'll last. It ended up running out of battery in the middle of gaming and panicking to figure out how to rejoin the group was a challenge as I would have to plug my headset into the wall and needed to run Air link which is highly unreliable in my location with lots of interference. I bought this card after much research and solid reviews and it did exactly what i needed! Plugged my headset cable directly into it and it reads it perfectly, quickly, and keeps it powered with no more down time! Love my VR set up now.

If you know who Startech is, then you don't need this commentary. For those who don't, you buy this for the simple fact that it works and it does exactly what it says it will do. No BS, no driver issues, no worry about 'malware' or whatever keeps you up and night. I've tried other Amazon brands for different PCIE related cards and they NEVER work. This one was literally plug and play (AS IT SHOULD BE!!!!) VR? Works HD? Fast. Charging?* Sure does... *as long as you provide SATA power, but you already knew that ;)

Very Reliable Features

Since it's StarTech, I'm sure it's great. What I received was the "old" USB 3.1 card, NOT the 3.2 card. CHECK YOUR PACKAGE when it arrives to be sure you get the right one. UPDATE: after realizing that both USB 3.2 Gen 2 and 3.1 Gen 2 were 10 Gbps, I did some research and what I learned was surprising! "Technical Basis: USB 3.2 Gen 2 is a rebranding of the original USB 3.1 Gen 2 standard by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) in 2017 to simplify the naming scheme and align it with the USB 3.2 specification." So, I'm retracting my earlier poor review and giving back five stars. I'll do some testing and update if I run into any problems, but otherwise this looks like a brand-new and typically solid StarTech product. It's the same thing - who knew. This is a good product at a good price. I just wish the sellers would update the listing to indicate that they're the same thing so when you receive it, you're not in the dark about why you got less than you thought you'd paid for!

I needed this because the USB-C output on my motherboard did not supply enough power to charge my Oculus Quest 2 while playing and I would find myself running out of battery life at the worst times. I play DCS world so I will be on for long stretches of time. This card solved that problem, regardless of what percent battery my Quest 2 is when I start playing, whenever I stop playing, it is always at 100%. Problem solved...uh....mostly......because one downside was in game I was having major stuttering or jitters to the point it was almost unplayable and that didn't happen with the onboard USB-C so I knew it was this card. I was about to return this card but then I read that X570 Ryzen motherboards have issues with USB but a bios fix was coming. I have a X570 TUF Pro and I downloaded the latest bios that addresses some of the USB issues (bios dated Mar 22, 2021). Installed that and now I get jitters only once in a while, not enough to be distracting. The bios update seemed to have fixed it mostly and now my quest stays charged during gameplay that I don't have to worry about it so I am keeping this card and it has worked for my needs. There is supposed to be another x570 bios update coming for my motherboard so hopefully the new release will completely solve my jittering, but if not I am ok. BTW make sure the card is plugged to your power source using the SATA cable if you want to keep your Quest 2 charged.

I think the speed is really good but I never really measured it with any official software. The transfer rate seems very quick between disk drives. I could not tell you the exact transfer rates I get because I have no idea if the rates I see are from the old hdd, the new ssd or the combination of everything. My point is this does the job and had no trouble setting it up. Quality was top notch. The value was expectedly within my range. I haven’t had to reach out to their support so that’s a good sign after a month of 24/7 usage. I downloaded the drivers but never had to use them because Windows 11 automatically detected this card. I do wish it had more ports, but the be fair so far I only used one of the two ports from the card. I’m just saying that it would be nice to future proof a bit.

I don't get all the comments on needing drivers. My card plays nice right out of the box. No drivers were needed on my setup running Windows 10. Simple plug-and-play. I also own an Oculus Quest 2 and use the official Oculus Link cable. The reason why the Oculus Link cable doesn't fully seat in the USB-C port on the card is not the card's fault. The reason why the connection doesn't "click" in the port is because the housing around the USB-C connection of the Oculus Link cable is so fat that it hits the case trim, blocking the USB-C connection to fully insert in the card's USB-C slot. Other USB-C cords I have that don't have a fat housing (like the USB-C cord that comes with a MacBook) connects completely in the card with a click. All because the cord's housing doesn't hit the case trim. I wish the Oculus Link cable didn't have such a fat end. To resolve this, you can use the L-shape end of the Oculus Link cable to connect to the USB-C card port and the straight end into the Oculus Link. The L-shape end of the Oculus Link cable connects fully in the USB-C card port.

Viene sin cable de alimentación, por lo que no puede usar velocidades USB 3.2. Compré esto para poder usar mi cámara como cámara web y transmitir en 4k. Sin alimentación externa, sólo permite una resolución de hasta 720p. Tampoco tengo idea de dónde comprar un cable de alimentación, ya que las instrucciones no son buenas.

Looking at the review it's a mixed bag of good and bad. For me it works as it should. Provides power to charge my oculus Quest 3. Installed on windows 11.

Upgraded a 10+ year old PC to add some modern storage options. Simple install and worked without issues on win 10 OS system. No need for any manual driver install.

The built in port on my Dell XPS 8940 could not provide enough power to charge my iPad Air 5th Generation - resulting in a power surge error. The card was easy to install and my XPS had a spare SATA power cable that I used for the additional power required. This card solved my problem and does a perfect job - thank you StarTech!
