Will You Be Friends with Me?

This is a wonderful book that helps children celebrate the differences in one another while inviting everyone to be friends. The illustrations are precious and the rhyming text is so sweet. Will You Be Friends With Me has quickly become one of the favorite books in our library. It is a perfect gift for a baby shower or a child's birthday. I highly recommend this book!

Will You be Friends With Me is one of those charming books that is deceptively simple, yet speaks profound truth. Instead of showing the same character on each page spread, or completely different characters on each spread, one character from each carries over to the next, then the new character carries on from there. As a result, a wide diversity of children engaged in a wide variety of activities is shown, one connecting to another, each learning that even though we're all different, those differences are inconsequential where friendship is concerned. Lilting verse is a pleasure to read and it won't take long for even young children to be "reading" with you. A wonderful contribution to today's need for diverse literature by this talented author.

I discovered this author's books several years ago and have bought many of them since to give as gifts - much to the delight of the recipients. Her books are always beautifully written and illustrated, and "Will You Be Friends with Me" is a perfect example. It is written for small children, but the message is perfect for all ages, including adults. Although we have many differences - including physical characteristics, lifestyles, likes and dislikes - they enrich our friendships and all aspects of our lives.

I bought this for my 3 year old grandchild. Amazingly, as I read it to him, I realized this board book story relates to all ages. Told in perfect, simple, fun rhythm, it points out the many differences between friends. Ms. Bostrom touches on life styles, appearance, personality, likes, foods, and play. The diverse, joyful illustrations reinforce the message. Your young one will request it to be read over and over again. Most importantly, you will want to!

This great book is a board book but would be wonderful for older children, too! The content and illustrations are appropriate for elementary aged children, too, as the tasks of learning to make friends and learning to appreciate differences are ongoing. And board books are actually preferred in classrooms and in other high use situations because they are more sturdy. Get this message of friendship into the hands of children of all ages!

What a marvelous way to let children know it is okay to be who they are as well accept their friends as they are. I love the multi-racial images of kids being kids. So glad I bought this book for my grand babies.

Such a wonderful way to teach young children how to interact. If only adults could learn from it too...Simple, to the point, and spot on!
