Boot Remedy's USB 3.1 A-to-C cable has the correct CC termination! A great legacy SuperSpeed cable for your Type-C devices!
Benson here again, continuing my reviews of USB Type C legacy cables. Today I am reviewing Boot Remedy's "High Quality USB Type C Cable for Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Lumia 950, OnePlus 2, Nokia N1 Tablet, Fast Charge USB 3.1 Type C to USB 3.0 Type A Male."Let's talk about spec compliance. My test setup today include a Chromebook Pixel 2015, and a Chromium OS USB-PD Sniffer (codename Twinkie). Please check it out by searching google for "Chromium USB-PD Sniffer". This product is also available on Amazon here : Plugable USB 3.1 Type-C (USB-C) Power Delivery Sniffer I got a comment in one of my previous reviews that I should be testing with a 2.4A capable power supply to demonstrate that the cable is of good enough quality to sustain 2.4A charging, so for this review, I am using one of Apple's 1st party power adapters with a 5.2V, 2.4A charging capability, specifically Apple's 12W iPad charger.Running the ectool command on Pixel:localhost ~ # ectool --dev 1 usbpdpowerPort 0: SNK Charger Proprietary 4643mV / 2400mA, max 5000mV / 2400mA / 12000mWPort 1: SRCIn this case, the Pixel has negotiated up to 2.4A of charging through the Boot Remedy cable to the Apple charger.Switching over to the USB PD sniffer, I'll run the "tw cc" command to get a voltage reading on both CC lines:> tw ccCC1 = 17 mV ; CC2 = 419 mVThe important number to look at here is CC2, which indicates a voltage of 419mV. If you refer to the USB Type-C Specification 1.1 Table 4-25.Look at the row labeled vRd-USB, which indicates the legal voltage values to read from the CC pin in order to be categorized as "Default USB Power". The range is Min : 0.25V Max : 0.61V. For this cable, I measured a value of 0.419V right in the middle of this range, indicating that yes, this cable has a 56k' resistor and is within spec for CC termination. One more command :> tw vbusVBUS = 4701 mV ; -2305 mAThe tw vbus command uses twinkie's current and voltage meter ability. As you can see, the laptop is pulling just around 2.4A of current at 4.701V from the Apple charger. For a USB 2.0 High Speed data test, I’ve hooked my Nexus 5X to my Chromebook Pixel via the Boot Remedy Type-A to Type-C cable to test large file transfer via MTP. It just works, no problem! For a USB 3.1 SuperSpeed data test, I've hooked up my Pixel C to my Chromebook Pixel using the Boot Remedy cable, and verified that it indeed enumerates at SuperSpeed by examining the device enumeration messages in dmesg (indicating new SuperSpeed USB device), and that large file transfers are stable. This is a great cable to have for MacBook users especially who want to use Target Disk Mode, which requires a SuperSpeed capable USB cable. For other more subjective judgements of this cable : The Type-C plug on this cable is a stamped metal part that's been wrapped around to the shape of the plug. It does have a seam on one side. The tip of the cable is black plastic, which rounds off the top. Overall, good quality here, but not great. In conclusion, this is a fine cable for your Nexus 6P/5X to use with all of your older USB Type-A chargers, hubs, and PCs. It also works great with Chromebook Pixel 2015 and will work great on USB Type-C spec compliant devices to come, as well as future proof for USB 3.1 SuperSpeed devices!

1 of 2 doesn't work with OnePlus 2 factory charger
I purchased two of these for use with a OnePlus 2.. One works fine but when using the second cable the phone will not charge. Funny thing is the PC sees it when plugged in to the PC but when connected to the charger the phone does not recognize it has been plugged in.

Worked well for 3 months....then stopped working completely.
While it worked, it worked as expected. But it stopped working today—3 months after I received it—which is pretty disappointed.

Not recommended for use with LG G5
While the cables technically work to charge a LG-G5, there is a problem where the cable does not securely connect to the port (i.e. does not click into place) making it very easy for the cable to slide out on their own. To make matters worse, the cable is somewhat stiff making it easy for come out if you move the phone at all. Comparing the length of the connector another connector from a different manufacturer, it would appear to be just a bit short. The top one clicks into place and is held firmly while the bottom is this connector.

It just works
I've read about the importance of a properly constructed USB Type C cable. This standard pushes a lot of juice - it can power monitors and laptops - and if it's not properly terminated, you can destroy your device.I'd heard good things about Benson Leung's reviews - he reviews USB-C components specifically for the cc termination issue that marks the difference between safe and disastrous. Compliance isn't the ONLY consideration, but non-compliance should be an automatic disqualifier. Leung also mentions his other impressions, but those are more personal preference: aesthetics, cable length, plug fit, etc. You don't need to understand everything he's saying - he's detailed and technical in his compliance tests - but if he gives it five stars it's safe; if it's one or two stars, run away.My impressions: the Boot Remedy is nice and long, passes Benson's compliance tests, and has a nice solid thickness. It feels like a quality cable. I've used the cable to charge my Nexus 6p from a variety of USB 2.x charging bricks - Motorola Moto X bricks, third-party USB plugs, a portable charging brick, a USB hub, a car charger - and it worked fine with all. It's not as fast as the native USB-C to USB-C charging brick that came with the phone, but that's expected. Charging has been relatively fast in all cases.I had one hiccup when I used a velcro tie to manage the cable, and it wouldn't charge. But when I unwound the cable it was fine. YMMV.All in all, a great purchase. The Nexus 6p was my first USB-C device, so gathering the peripherals to make sure I'm always able to charge the device has been a learning experience. I would recommend the Boot Remedy.

Good for your GOOGLE Fi phone!
Buy this for you Nexus 6P Google Fi phone. This charger works as fast as my original one that came with the phone. AND if you haven't switched to Google Fi yet, DO IT. I had Verizon and now am saving $75.00 a month. Better customer service too. Also I used in Europe and Russia with much data use and many calls home to the US, did not need a SIM card since its a global phone, and only paid $13.00 more than my normal $30.00 monthly charge. WOOHOO!! You go Google!...oh and don't forget to buy this charger too

I like it, charges pretty fast if I plug it ...
I like it, charges pretty fast if I plug it into my computer which also has a fast charge port. I just wish it would stick in the phone slot better, sometimes is loose and falls out.
