GOOD REVIEWS DON'T ALWAYS TELL THE TRUE STORY!
Like many others, I saw a segment on Yacon Syrup on the Dr. Oz show as an aid in weight loss & source of fiber. I was planning on ordering it when I got back from vacation. While in Arizona, I saw it at a Sprouts store and decided to give it a try. I purchased the only brand they had which was Genesis Today (it was $26.99 for the standard 8oz bottle). Although I had never tried Yacon syrup before, I read many articles about it & had a good idea what to expect taste wise. The Genesis Today brand did not disappoint. It was very dark, thick & tasted like a prune that had been turned into syrup. For me, the taste is very good just eating it off a spoon, but I could see where it could be used on waffles, pancakes, in coffee or tea. As for the results, I cannot speak to losing weight because I was eating like a pig on vacation, but I can say I didn't gain any weight. The best thing about this product for me is that it kept me "regular". I usually eat a lot of carbs & processed foods on vacation versus when I am home, I juice & eat mostly whole foods. Eating processed foods/carbs causes me terrible constipation so this was a very easy way to fix that. I only took 2 teaspoons a day (it's recommended to take 3) & it kept things moving very well. The Genesis Today brand was in a jar which I always prefer to plastic. With any Yacon syrup it should be refrigerated after opening. Now, back to the review of the Quality Encapsulations brand. I came home & decided to look on Amazon for the same brand but I made the mistake of reading the reviews of other brands instead of going with the same brand I purchased on vacation. The Quality Encapsulation brand had great review and was $4 cheaper. so I decided to give it a try. Immediately upon opening the PLASTIC bottle, I noticed the color was lighter and did not smell as sweet. Then I took a taste & was terribly disappointed. It tasted like it had baking soda added to it. I say baking soda, because it was lighter in color & was not as sweet or thick. I called Amazon right away & sent it back the next day for a full refund. Since it is not regulated by the FDA, the only way you can make a smart decision when it comes to supplements is to do the research. This doesn't mean reading reviews because the person reviewing the product may be trying it for the first time, so they do not have anything to compare it to. I google the company, see how long they have been in business, check them with the BBB, and use the reviews as a last resort but take them with a grain of salt. I have also learned not to choose the cheapest one either. When it comes to ingestible health products, I go with glass over plastic now. I find that while it is more expensive for companies to use glass, the companies that do, have very good quality products that they don't want affected by the plastic, so they are using it because they want to keep the integrity of the product. (Such was the case in buying honey, Wee Bee is in glass jars & the best on the market). I feel, if you are going to spend a good bit on a product that is going into your body, why not have the best product that will actually give you the most benefits. If you plan to use Yacon syrup on a regular basis, try the Genesis Today brand (sold here on Amazon) & you will see what a difference there is between it & the Quality Encapsulations brand, you will be shocked. Unfortunately, with all the buzz Dr. Oz creates every time he mentions a new product, many new companies arise & their main goal is profit, so with no FDA regulations, you have to choose very wisely.

Great taste but help metabolism?? Not sure
I have now been taking this Yacon Syrup for eight days exactly as recommended (3 tsp/day) and have yet to see any results as far as "moving things along" to put it nicely. It has a great flavor and I intend to keep using it and purchase more because I have been using it to sweeten my tea instead of using sugar or other sweeteners that are bad for your health. This aspect of the product I really do like. As most are saying it almost has a maple syrup flavor so using it as a sweetener works well without leaving an awkward after-taste. I originally ordered this syrup because Dr. Besser did a report about it on GMA recently and was saying that it was a 100% natural syrup that really helped well with metabolism and regulating the digestive track. I am someone who suffers from some digestive issues so was hopeful maybe this would help. Dr. Besser claimed that the syrup works so well that when used as directed, some people dropped from a study on the product due to resulting tummy issues. I am giving this syrup a 3-Star rating because I have not seen any positive change in my metabolism at all. I just recently started eating clean using as many organic, non-processed foods/goods as possible and really upping my intake of fresh veggies and greens as well and still I am not having an increase in metabolism/digestion. So for that matter, I am a little bummed but as I stated will continue to use it for a sweetener. Hope this feedback is useful to someone.

We like it - We really like it - Solidifies instead of Satisfies
We've been sent surveys to indicate whether this was a pleasant buying experience or not. I cannot imagine buying anything from Amazon to be an unpleasant buying experience. Purchasing from Amazon is always pleasant.Purchasing Yacon Syrup has been a mystery. We've tried several different brands. They all have the same thing in common. Each has been delicious but after using about 1/3 of the bottle (typically within a week to a week and a half), the product solidifies, even with the cover tightly screwed on. We end up throwing away most of the product because we cannot remove it from the bottle. We have tried using the microwave to reliquify the product. No matter how low the setting, typically the bottle will melt before the product does. We've tried placing the bottle in hot water. That doesn't work at all.I've given up on Yacon until someone finds a formula that will not solidify. I'm looking forward to reading a review titled "Breakthrough we've found a way to keep the product liquified". When I've seen that, I'll continue to order Yacon. It tastes good and makes a nice alternative to using syrups or sugars to sweeten food.

Did Not Deliver
I had high hopes, as we all do with 'miracle' supplements. I have a voracious appetite that nothing can touch (historically speaking). I took this product exactly as directed, 3 teaspoons a day, straight out of the bottle (no combining with other foods). The taste was fine, consistency okay (although it loses it's 'pour-ability' as the product diminishes - thick and sticky on bottom with no good method to get it out). Upon taking the product, my appetite was not quelled to any significant degree. I did not lose an ounce of weight after staying on it for 10+ days. An unexpected side effect was that my tinnitus (chronic ear ringing) seemed to diminish to a more tolerable degree. I don't think I could commit to drinking this forever to keep my tinnitus in check, but it did inspire research into the correlation between blood sugar balance and tinnitus. I am thankful for this inspiration, which is my reason for adding a third star to my rating. All said, if that correlation is accurate, then I can only assume this product does work to put blood sugar into balance. Unfortunately for me, that's not enough to tame my appetite.
