One of my favorite pens!
Love these pens, you get a decent amount for the price, the ink flows and writes smoothly. It usually dries pretty quickly, but can smudge. Love the fun colors that they come in and the grip if comfortable.

Quality pen
These pens always write nicely and are smooth on the paper. They last a long while and feel comfortable in hand the whole time. The grips outlast the ink every time.

Perfectly slippery
This a great pen, especially for crosswords and signing documents. It writes VERY smoothly.

Love these Pens
Great pens, I use them all the time. Love the different colors. Wanted a pen that was comfortable to write with and I also like the bold instead of the fine point.

Gone Through 8 of 12 Pens - Finally Found Pens That Don't Smear or Skip
What Makes These Exceptional: The 1.4mm Bold Point is a Game-Changer: This thick line makes writing effortless. You barely need to apply pressure, which reduces hand fatigue dramatically. For someone who writes 2-3 pages of notes daily, this makes a genuine difference. The bold line also looks more authoritative on documents and forms. Zero Smearing for Left-Handed Writers: This is HUGE for lefties. The ink dries almost instantly. I can write quickly and drag my hand across the page without creating the telltale smudge trail that's haunted me since elementary school. Right-handed people probably don't appreciate how revolutionary this is. Incredibly Smooth Writing: These glide across paper like a quality gel pen but with the reliability of ballpoint. No scratching, no catching on paper fibers, no hesitation. Writing feels effortless. Never Skip or Blob: Seven months, eight complete pens, thousands of words written - I've had exactly ZERO instances of skipping or ink blobbing. Every pen has written consistently from first use to empty. Retractable Mechanism is Solid: The click mechanism has a satisfying, firm action. After hundreds of clicks per pen, none have become loose or mushy. No caps to lose, which is perfect for my absent-minded self. Comfortable Rubber Grip: The grip has enough cushioning to prevent finger fatigue but isn't so squishy that it feels cheap. The contoured shape fits naturally in hand. After writing for 30-45 minutes straight, no hand cramps. Color Variety is Genuinely Useful: My pack had black, blue, red, and green (three of each). Color-coding notes, editing documents, and organizing to-do lists is so much easier with multiple colors readily available. Ink Lasts a Surprisingly Long Time: Each pen lasts me approximately 3-4 weeks with daily heavy use (2-3 pages of notes daily plus random writing). That's impressive longevity for a ballpoint. Works on Multiple Paper Types: Standard copy paper, notebook paper, sticky notes, envelopes, cardstock - writes smoothly on everything. Even slightly glossy paper accepts the ink well. Professional Appearance: The translucent barrel with colored grip looks clean and professional. Appropriate for office use, client meetings, or classroom settings. Ink Color Matches Barrel Color: Black pen has black ink, blue pen has blue ink, etc. Sounds obvious but some brands mix this up. The consistency is appreciated. Affordable Multi-Pack Pricing: At roughly $8-12 for 12 pens (prices vary), that's about $0.70-1.00 per pen. Considering the quality and longevity, that's exceptional value. THE CONS - Being Completely Honest: Bold Line Isn't for Everyone: If you have small handwriting or need to fit lots of text in tight spaces, the 1.4mm line is too thick. This is great for normal-to-large handwriting, not for tiny script. Ink Can Feather on Cheap Paper: On dollar-store notebook paper or very thin paper, the bold ink can feather slightly at edges of letters. On standard copy paper or quality notebook paper, this doesn't happen. Not Ideal for Forms with Small Boxes: Tax forms, applications with tiny boxes, detailed forms - the bold point makes neat writing in small spaces challenging. Keep a fine-point pen handy for these. Color Assortment is Random: You don't get to choose specific color quantities. My pack had 3 of each color (black, blue, red, green), but other reviews mention different distributions. If you specifically need 12 black pens, buy color-specific packs. Uses Proprietary Refills: You can't refill these with universal ink cartridges. When they're empty, you need Paper Mate Profile refills specifically. Not a major issue since the pens are affordable anyway. Grip Can Get Slippery When Hands Are Sweaty: During hot weather or long writing sessions, slightly sweaty hands reduce grip traction. Wipe hands periodically if this becomes an issue. Ink is Not Completely Waterproof: If documents get wet, the ink will run. For important documents that need weather resistance, use archival pens instead. Cap-Less Design Means Potential Pocket Marks: The exposed tip can mark shirt pockets if clicked open accidentally. Always verify pens are retracted before pocketing. Not Archival Quality: These are everyday pens. For signing legal documents or artwork meant to last decades, use archival ink pens. REAL-WORLD USAGE TESTING: Daily Note-Taking: Approximately 2-3 pages of meeting notes, to-do lists, and planning daily. Pens handle this volume without issue. Document Signing: Signatures look bold and professional. The thick line creates authoritative-looking signatures on contracts and forms. Left-Handed Writing Test: As a leftie, I write with my hand curled over the line. Zero smearing even with immediate contact with written text. Extended Writing Sessions: Graded papers and wrote detailed feedback for 90 minutes straight. No hand cramping, no fatigue. Different Paper Types: Copy paper: Perfect Notebook paper: Excellent Cardstock: Good (requires slight pressure) Sticky notes: Works great Envelopes: Perfect for addressing Speed Writing: Rapid note-taking during fast-paced meetings - ink keeps up, no skipping even at high speed. Longevity Per Pen: Average 3-4 weeks of daily heavy use before running empty. That's approximately 50-75 pages of writing per pen. COMPARISON TO OTHER PENS: vs. BIC Cristal: BIC is cheaper but skips more and feels scratchy. Paper Mate is noticeably smoother. vs. Pilot G2 (Gel Pens): G2 is smoother but smears badly for lefties and runs out faster. Paper Mate is better value and performance for my needs. vs. Uni-ball Jetstream: Jetstream is excellent but costs more. Paper Mate offers 85% of the quality at 60% of the price. vs. Paper Mate InkJoy: InkJoy is lighter line (1.0mm vs 1.4mm). Profile's bolder line is more satisfying and authoritative-looking. vs. Zebra F-301: F-301 is metal and durable but the thinner line requires more pressure. Profile is more comfortable for long writing. vs. Cheap Generic Pens: Not even comparable. Generic pens skip, blob, and die quickly. False economy. WHO SHOULD BUY THESE: Left-Handed Writers: The fast-drying ink is revolutionary for us smear-sufferers People Who Write A LOT: Students, teachers, professionals taking extensive notes Anyone with Hand Fatigue Issues: The smooth flow requires minimal pressure People Who Prefer Bold, Readable Writing: Great for signatures, forms, notes Office Workers: Professional appearance, reliable performance Teachers: Grading papers, writing comments, classroom use Students: Note-taking, essay writing, studying Anyone Tired of Skipping Pens: These simply don't skip WHO MIGHT WANT ALTERNATIVES: People with Very Small Handwriting: The 1.4mm line is too thick for tiny script Artists/Illustrators: Need finer points for detailed work Those Completing Detailed Forms: Small boxes require fine-point pens Archival Document Writers: Need fade-proof, waterproof ink People Wanting Luxury Writing Experience: These are practical workhorses, not luxury pens PRO TIPS FOR MAXIMUM SATISFACTION: Color-code your systems - Use different colors for different types of tasks or subjects Store horizontally - Helps ink flow consistency Prime new pens - Scribble on scrap paper for 5-10 seconds when first using Keep caps retracted in pockets - Prevents accidental marks on clothing Rotate through colors - Prevents ink from settling in unused pens Pair with quality paper - These pens deserve good paper to shine Keep one in every location - Car, office, home, bag - never be without one SPECIFIC USE CASE REVIEWS: For Students: Perfect for class notes, essay writing, studying. Bold line makes reviewing notes easier. For Teachers: Excellent for grading. Red ink stands out clearly. Comfortable for extended grading sessions. For Office Work: Professional appearance, reliable for meetings, signing documents, daily tasks. For Left-Handers: Life-changing. Seriously. The fast-drying ink eliminates decades of frustration. For Signatures: Creates bold, authoritative signatures that look professional and are hard to forge. VALUE ANALYSIS: Cost per pen: $0.70-1.00 Pages written per pen: Approximately 50-75 Cost per page: $0.01-0.02 Comparison to premium pens: 50-60% cheaper with 85% of the quality Replacement cycle: 3-4 weeks per pen with heavy use = 3-4 pens per year per person Annual cost for one heavy user: $3-4 per year That's exceptional value for daily-use quality pens. UNEXPECTED BENEFITS: Improved Handwriting: The smooth flow and bold line make my handwriting look more confident and readable Increased Writing Confidence: No more worrying about skipping or smearing during important documents Reduced Hand Fatigue: Can write longer without discomfort Better Note Organization: Color variety makes notes more visually organized and easier to review Professional Impression: Bold signatures and writing look more authoritative OVERALL VERDICT: These Paper Mate Profile pens are the Goldilocks of everyday writing instruments - not too cheap, not too expensive, not too thin, not too thick. They're just right for 90% of daily writing needs. As a left-handed writer who's suffered through decades of smeared ink and skipping pens, finding these has genuinely improved my daily writing experience. The fact that I've gone through eight complete pens in seven months (rather than abandoning them half-full like I usually do with disappointing pens) speaks volumes. Are they luxury pens? No. Are they perfect for every situation? No. But for everyday writing, note-taking, document signing, and general office use, they're exceptional. The combination of smooth writing, fast-drying ink, comfortable grip, and affordable pricing makes them my new default pen purchase. WHO BENEFITS MOST: Left-handed writers (seriously, life-changing) Students and teachers with heavy writing demands Office workers needing reliable everyday pens Anyone frustrated with skipping or smearing pens People who write 2+ pages daily Those who want bold, readable writing Budget-conscious buyers wanting quality WHO SHOULD LOOK ELSEWHERE: People with very small handwriting Artists needing fine detail work Form-fillers needing thin lines Luxury pen collectors Those wanting archival-quality ink Anyone rarely writing by hand BOTTOM LINE: Seven months ago, I bought a 12-pack of pens expecting them to be adequate. Instead, they've become my go-to writing instrument for everything. I'm on pen #9, and I've already ordered another 12-pack because the thought of running out and going back to inferior pens is genuinely upsetting. When you find pens that write smoothly, don't skip, don't smear, last for weeks, and cost a dollar each, you don't overthink it - you stock up.

Little patchy, cute, and nice in hand
I like these, the colors are nice and they're a nice gel pen. But they can also be quite patchy in use, some also seem smoother than others, but honestly not horrible for the price. They don't smudge from what I can tell and are comfortable in the hand.

Smoothest Pens Ever!
I am obsessed with these Paper Mate Profile pens! The ink glides across the page so smoothly that writing actually feels fun again. The colors are bold and vibrant, especially the purple and blue ones, which make notes pop. I love the thicker 1.4mm tip—it gives every word a nice, confident line without smudging. The grip is soft and comfy, so my hand doesn’t get tired even after a long writing session. These pens also click satisfyingly, which somehow makes me use them even more. I’ll definitely be restocking these when I run out because they’ve become my new writing go-to!

Nice inexpensive pens. The color is more of a really deep magenta than a true purple, but its a really pretty shade so I think purple addicts would be happy with it. Writes smoothly with no drag and without blobs. Each pen lasts quite awhile, too. When this box runs out I will probably buy again.

Write nicely and I love the 1.4mm point.

When I first used this pen in the US - I audibly said, "Wow - this is so smooth!". It's the same reaction I get whenever I encourage other people to try the pen. It has ruined other pens now: They feel like scratching a jagged blade across paper.
