HID Ballast replacement 2008 solara
The ballast was easy to hook up once I worked the cable through the opening. Not sure if I was doing it wrong but I could not get the plug through the light assy. I had to lightly grind, sand off some of the light assy and puts some lube on it because of the tight fit. This is no fault of the ballast design. This was the first time I ever changed one out but holy crap that was annoying. That added about an hour and a half to the installation. Not sure why Toyota did not leave more space for the plug to fit easily, just doesn't make sense. Like I said maybe I did not do it the way it was designed to be replaced. I got it installed, works well so far. My issue was the headlights would both work but after several minutes the light on the 2008 solara on battery side would shut off. It would come back on if turned off and then back on again. I decided to replace the ballast. Pretty big job for a novice, but doable. Just think instructions of some sort would be nice if included with ballast.

Product works as expected. I have been running the lights all day and night without issue. Just a heads up for prius owners you will need to disassemble the harness that goes onto the bulb in order to run the cable through the headlight. Sounds a bit scary but turns out to be fairly easy. I actually had a lot of trouble taking this one apart and had to destroy it and reuse the stock harness. I guess that's some pretty good build quality.

Great lower cost replacement
Has the correct length wire for a 2nd generation Prius. The insulation on the replacement is a braided fabric with possibly some metallic content, but is far different from the braided metal jacket of the OEM. However, it fit perfectly and works just fine. Cannot argue at the price difference versus obtaining the OEM from Toyota.

Absolute waste of time and money
Started flickering / going out after only a week and a half. The way it needed to be installed with a Prius headlight assembly required cutting and re-attaching the cord which voids warrantee. Mechanic confirmed there was no issue at the cord and the part was faulty in the first place so I had to buy another one. Absolute waste of time and money.

Ballast was in good condition when received
Ballast was in good condition when received, however it is not longer working. I believe with this item being an electrical part, there is no guarantee.

Dead After 2 Weeks
My headlight stopped working 2 weeks after I had this installed. The mechanic said that the ballast had just burned up. I could smell for myself that this was true.
