Performance Tool W54311 Large Straight Jaw Oil Filter Pliers, 3-1/4-Inch to 4-1/2-Inch

Work in a express lupe shop and this oil filter pliers is used every day - the three size notches wear out fast or slip when oil is there - so the solution was to put a bolt and nut in the notch so it always one the smallest ( cars and Light trucks ) - good filter pliers

I have 6 or 7 pairs of the other kind of oil filter pliers. These are my new favorite. They grip well, and the auto adjust is the way to go. Anyone want to buy a slightly used pair of standard ones 😁?

The issue I've had is due to space I wasn't able to get enough "leverage" to keep the pliers tight enough on the filter. I had to resort to my band filter tool to remove the filter.

If you have easy access to the filter this may be ok. But if it's difficult to get to, don't bother with this.

Fits 3 different oil filters

If you are expecting these oil filter pliers to work on multiple sizes thanks to their slip jaw design, thing again, about 3 days into use, they will automatically slip to the largest setting regardless of where you want them. The only remedy I've found to this BS, is to put a nut and bolt into place to make it so they are forcibly at the smallest setting. They don't open up anymore, but you'll only be able to use them at that size range. Still useful, but overall, a bad purchase.

I'm a mechanic and do oil changes frequently. Most oil filter pliers are straight, which is fine if the filter is just plain out in the open with no obstructions. However, for the more difficult to reach filters, these work great. I can't say that they work for everything, but they do a great job for 90% of the screw on filters that I come across. Also, the teeth bite into the metal and seem to have more grip than other brands that I have used. The handle is soft and stays grippy even when soaked with oil. Well worth the money! The only improvement I would want to add to these would be a return spring so that they open on their own.

Finally I decided to get the tool for the job. No more trying to make it work this works great.
