The Cattlemen: From the Rio Grande across the Far Marias

Sandoz is on of my favorite authors. This book had some good history. It also had a lot of cowboy hype that I did not expect, but which was probably necessary if it was to sell to a mass audience.

IIneresting backgound on the development of the cattle industry.

One of the best books on the Cattle Drives North. Must read for any History buff.

Very well researched, constructed, and developed.

Precisely what I wanted before I anticipated it.

There's a lot in this book and sometimes it dragged. I love Mari Sandoz and her writing style, but she put a LOT in this book. It was sometimes a little hard to follow, and sometimes it seemed to jump chronologically, especially near the end.

This book is filled with history of the cow, horses and the men who made a life of tending and wrangling the beasts.
