Being from Sweden, IceBugs knows more than they might want to admit about winter. Not only the postcard pretty, snowy landscape type, but anything from -25C, over slush to the modern city version of +5C with the rain blowing hard into your face and the streets flooding. The real icebugs survive by creating an anti-freeze protein in their bodily fluids. We humans can't resort to that. But warn, dry feet and outstanding traction is a good way of staying mobile and increasing the chances of making it through, even keeping the spirits up.

Pricey But Worth It
I've been cycling for over forty years and these are definitely the best insoles I have ever had in a pair of cycling shoes. When it comes to cycling, I have problematic feet. They're wide, so I either have to find wide shoes (rare), or wear a half size to a full size up to get enough width to prevent my toes from being squeezed. I also have high arches and a weak ankle (the result of an injury many years ago). Without a massive amount of arch support, my weak ankle allows my foot to roll inward effecting both my foot's position on the pedal and my pedaling motion. In recent years I've taken to putting plastic arch supports beneath the stock insoles in my shoes. This has helped, but not solved, my problems and keeping the supports in place is a pain.I did some research and found a suggestion regarding metatarsal support for cycling insoles. If you don't know what this looks like, it takes the form of a "bump" in the insole directly behind the ball of the foot. I did some more research and found excellent reviews and pictures of the Icebug insoles. I decided to give them a try. They're pricey but, out of the box, you can tell they are well designed and well made. I bought a size 12 US to fit a size 47 Shimano road cycling shoe and they fit with minimal trimming on both sides of the toes. The length was perfect. The arch and metatarsal bump are both very pronounced. They look like they'd be uncomfortable, but they conform to my feet perfectly. And they seem to work. I only have two thirty mile rides with them so far, but my foot comfort is much improved and I don't have to fool with separate arch supports. If things continue to go well, I'm going to buy a second pair for my mountain bike shoes.

GREAT INSOLE!
Finally an insert that I really really like! I have high arches, metatarsal pain, heel pain, plantar fasciitis, etc.. horrible feet. I needed something that was going to cradle the 3 arches whilst flexing to allow my arch to stretch naturally. They are pricey, they squeak somewhat, but man they feel really good in my Brooks glycerin shoes! Go to their website for sizing info, I have a size 9 women's shoes (Brooks Glycerin) and ordered a size 8 Icebugs. They go all the way to all edges, if a milimeter larger they wouldn't have fit in my shoes... Be aware there is a metatarsal support ('golf ball' under the ball of your foot) which may feel very prominent the first couple times you use this, but I think you get used to it in short order and it really helps cradle your metatarsal arch/pad. They are not joking when it comes to a high arch support.

Metatarsal bump is a bit much
I had purchased these for my cycling shoes since there have been some good reviews online about them. I will say the thin profile fits the cycling shoes nicely and the lining is a nice smooth material. My two issues are the arch support and metatarsal bump. The arch support is pretty flexible which doesnt seem to provide enough support when dealing with the forces of cycling. Second the metatarsal bump is extremely pronounced. While this may be a personal preference, I found this to be very irritating, and feels like there's a large lump under your foot at all times. Ultimately these may be OK for some but I found these two points to be a bit of a deal breaker.

Nice high arch support, with flexibility
I've got high arches, and these work well for me. The arch is plastic, but it's not rigid (like Superfeet or custom orthotics), so there's some movement there. Same with the metatarsal pad -- it's there and very noticeable until you get used to it, but it's flexible. I've got a "fat" pair (blue) and a "slim" pair (yellow) and they're both good for different purposes. Slim/yellow is good in cycling shoes and lightweight running shoes, with minimal volume. They do their thing without much weight. Fat/blue is good in dress shoes and casual shoes, with more cushion than slim/yellow, and with some heft. Fat/Blue would be okay in a larger running shoe or for a heavier or slower runner, but would be too much for a speedier runner. Yellow is perfect for a fast/light/low-volume shoe.

One size does not fit all; 30 Day Guarantee honored
Really wanted to like these. Love the left side. The Icebug innersole on the left side disappeared, feels wonderful. Right side not so much. Metatarsal bump on right side is in the wrong place for my foot. Tried the innersole in 3 different pair of cycling shoe (reason why I bought), 1 pair of running shoes and 1 pair of dress shoes. Every pair, innersole on right side was annoying. Could feel metatarsal bump constantly. Constantly moving/sliding foot inside shoe trying to get bump in right place. Not happening. Expensive mistake. Guess I'll contact seller and see how good the 30 day guarantee is. UPDATE: 30 Day Guarantee was honored. Rating changed in accordance

Not comfortable.
I searched for a long time looking for a replacement insole for my Sidi cycling shoes. plenty of reviews on line, so I decided to try some out. The thickness of the Icebug SLIM stood out to me. When they arrived, they needed a bit of trimming in order to fit the shoe. There's a bump in these that is supposed to be beneficial. The supplier says "you will get used to it". That should have been a warning flag. It's like saying that you will get used to the slinter in your finger! That bump caused a lot of foot pain and cramped my foot into the shoe. After a month of use, I took them out as they were the most uncomfortable insoles I've ever used. Switched to the Specialized BG SL Footbed Blue ++. What a difference!
