Great product fir fixing HEAVY TV’s to dab and dot walls
Like so many homes I have a dab and dot walls in a recent extension. These are great except that, like so many, there’s a void (gap) between the plaster boards and the concrete blocks behind them. These fixings are MADE for this scenario. The screws look fairly thin but they are holding a TV bracket, supporting a TV weighing 73KG (and taking 3 of us to lift it, I can attest that that IS heavy! 😱). Using traditional plaster board fittings would have ripped straight out of the wall and no doubt left several sizeable holes. These fixings (being LONG) transfer the weight through the gap and into the concrete with a clever steel sleeve (called a CORE) bridging the gap between the plaster board and the concrete, so effectively taking the weight off the plaster board.Easy to use, just make sure you have a long enough size 10 drill bit (at least 150mm) and follow the instructions. Peace of mind is a great thing especially when wall mounting a big TV.The pack says 4 fixings will hold up to 100 kg’s - whilst I’m sure they do, I used six (belt and braces), but they do exactly what they claim they do.

A godsend but.......not as easy to install as they make out
A godsend but.......not as easy to install as they make outFirstly, you should drill a hole depth a bit deeper than they recommend. This is because rubble/debris falls and collects at the back of the hole thereby shortening the hole's length, and this results in the plug and/or the screw bottoming out (not being driven in all the way). The instructions, in the form of 'pictorials', do recommend blowing air into the holes to clear debris before inserting plug and screw, but doing so isn't always possible. The next issue is that sometimes the hole is tight which means you have to bang quite hard on the plug to knock it into the hole. This can result in the head of the plug collapsing/crumbling before you have driven it in all the way. Also, hard banging can lead to damage to the plasterboard.Next up, is the issue of the plug head. This has a large flange/shoulder which has to be knocked quite hard for it to sink into the wall so as to be flush with the wall surface. So that's yet more banging; not good.Of the six fixings I put up only one of them went in 100% smoothly just like the adverts and review demos. My advice for a totally hassle free application is to do as follows:~ buy a compressed air canister before you start~ to be on the safe side, drill hole depth a lot deeper than recommended (for 95mm fixings, drill hole depth to around 110mm)~ make the back end of the hole a tiny bit wider (you can do this by using a drill bit one or two sizes smaller in diameter and then wiggle it around at the back of the hole)~ use a countersunk bit or drill bit the same diameter as the plug's flange to create a recess just deep enough to accept the flange without you having to hammer home the plug too much in order to make it lay flush with the wall surface.Once those preparations are made this kit will be effortless to install.Once installed these fixings are incredibly strong.I didn't bother to test the claim that one of the two brackets I put up to support my oven, can take 70kg. However, it's clearly a neat and effective solution to the problem of securing heavy items to a 'dot and dab' wall.
