Wisdom Panel Purebred certification test can help answer your questions and satisfy your curiosity. The test evaluates the genetic patterns within your dog compared with the genetic signatures observed in our database of known purebred dogs.The Wisdom Panel Purebred test should only be purchased and submitted if you think you have a Purebred dog. If you believe your dog is a Mixed Breed, Mars Veterinary offers a different test which is available here.How does Wisdom Panel work and what type of information will it provide?Testing is as easy as 1-2-3. 1. Simply collect a sample from the inside of your dog's cheek with the included swabs. 2. Mail them back to our laboratory in the postage-paid envelope. 3. Within 3 weeks, you'll receive an e-mailed Ancestry Report with your dog's results. Once you receive your test kit, you must go to the Wisdom panel website to register your Kit ID number. Failure to do so will delay the process and impact our ability to send your test results within our published timeframe. What's in the box?Each box includes an instruction sheet, two swabs, a submission form, and a pre-paid envelope.How do you report a Purebred dog's results?Since the test is designed to indicate if the dog's DNA is within the test parameters for the breed you indicate, Wisdom Panel first determines that your purebred is a dog whose sire and dam are members of a recognized breed and that the ancestry consists of the same breed over many generations. Your report would include an ancestry tree showing all generations up through your dog's great grandparents and give you a deeper understanding of your dog's genetic makeup for that specific breed.Can the test be used to identify health issues or disease predispositions?Wisdom Panel is used to help determine the breed makeup of a dog. All of these tests serve different purposes. Generally, if you are not sure of the breeds present in your dog, or if you have a mixed breed dog, you should purchase Wisdom Panel Mixed Breed. If you believe that your dog is a purebred and you believe you know what breed it is, then you should purchase Wisdom Panel Purebred. This test will indicate if the dog's DNA is within the test parameters for the breed you indicate and give you a deeper understanding of your dog's genetic makeup for that specific breed. If you believe that your dog has two purebred parents, (i.e. your dog is a hybrid, otherwise known as a "designer dog") then you should purchase Wisdom Panel Designer Dog. If you are purchasing Wisdom Panel as a gift for someone, we would recommend that you purchase Wisdom Panel Mixed Breed, as this is the broadest test and does not require that the breeds be identified prior to testing.What test should I use if I am not sure my dog is a purebred?If you are not reasonably sure of the breed of your dog or it is a mixed breed, we suggest that you utilize our Wisdom Panel Mixed Breed test as it is designed to compare your dog's DNA to all the breeds within the Wisdom Panel Mixed Breed database. However if you are reasonably sure and want to test for a single breed, then you should use the Wisdom Panel Purebred test. Our Purebred test is a much more extensive test that is designed to compare your dog to known purebreds within a specified breed to see how similar or dissimilar your dog is to that breed.How long does it take to get results?Once the sample has been received at the lab it generally takes 2-3 weeks for the sample to be tested, results generated and report available for download on our website. Fun, fun!
I have a samoyed who I was pretty sure was purebred, but thought it would be fun to try this kit for s***s and giggles. It was easy to use and very convenient to have the pre-stamped package to send the swabs back in. I really like the report I recieved which shows the gene clustering of my dog compared to a cluster of American samoyeds, British samoyeds, and other dogs. Sure thing, she is 100% samoyed and fell right in the middle of the American cluster. I imagine this kit is even more fun to use on mixed breed pups.I would like it if the company explained which genes they were sampling. It would probably not be interesting/make much sense to the general public, but I have a biology background and worked in a genetics lab, so I would love to see the technobabble details on the website.

I ordered two test; one for each of my dogs. The testing process was simple enough. The result process took longer than promised. I had to wait 3-4 weeks for my results. In the end it was worth it since I found out what my mixed dogs were. It was a suprise but now that I know the breeds I can see it in my dogs! Item comes with a cute chart and you can upload a pic for them to include in the center of the chart. The results are comprehensive. I think it is worth the money for a dog lover.

Great DNA Test
I used this DNA kit to find out the breed or breeds of my 5 month old puppy. I knew she had ShihTzu in her makeup, but was surprised to see she also had Chihuahua and poodle. I plan on checking the DNA of my older dog.

I finally found out what my prue-breed dog is. The only problem I had was downloading the folder they sent my email. This is probably because of my computer but they were very pleasant and mailed me a written copy. Very professional and helpful with 800 number they answered promptly.

MARS/Wisdom Panel - Perfect example of incompentency
I bought two of these kits based on the Amazon feedback - kits were used by two different people on two different dogs. Both came back with insufficient amount of DNA for testing from the Labratory service - 'MARS/Wisdom Panel' (they didn't even tell me about the second one - leaving me waiting for over month, I only found out when I finally called them inquiring about it).After multiple attempts with very little or no customer service, I have given up and am currently trying to get a refund on both - which is difficult to do because there is no product to return - the kits are sent into the lab with nothing to return to Amazon.My advice - just have your vet test your dog. I feel this method is an easy scam.

I recommend this to all of my friends that are curious about their dogs breed. I found out that my lab is part German Shepherd and English Setter which makes perfect sense with the way he looks.

As a puppy my chessie didn't have any curls. Looked more choc lab which breeder also had. Test said he's a chessie. Turned out right. 2 years later covered in curls.

I loved the results
while it took a long time to get the dna processed. I would reccomend this to anyone wanting to know more about their pet. Was very easy to use and the printed paperwork and explanation was very clear and easy to follow.
