Excellent, unique newly made stereo versions of the original hit singles
I bought this collection mostly for the NEW stereo that's on it. Lots of great songs, and 20 of the 29 have never been available in top-quality stereo before, because they were originally recorded only in Mono. If you haven't heard what Digitally Extracted Stereo (DES) sounds like lately, you're in for a real treat. It's just about indistinguishable from real-stereo recordings from the same time period. When they called this CD "amazing", they weren't kidding. Fake stereo used to have a bad reputation (well deserved), but try these - the technology has improved beyond belief in the last few years. The music here is all created, remixed and remastered by Mark Matthews and Walt Weiskopf, of Eric Records. It's all done to Audiophile and Collector standards. Besides making everything match the original singles, it sounds like they even pay attention to what the early stereo recordings of the same performer sounded like, and try to match what the song would have been like if it had been recorded in stereo. The typical engineers from this time period didn't use the potential of the stereo illusion. It's possible to create a big soundstage with it, with each voice or instrument individually located anywhere between the speakers and at any distance from the listener. Many late-60s recordings and most from the 70s and later do that, but many early stereo recordings sound like they just made three mono recordings and placed one on the left, one in the center, and one on the right, nothing anywhere else. Many of the DES stereo songs on this CD also have a 3-track-mono-ish sound that won't give you much of a clue that they weren't made back then. One example on this CD that does NOT do this is Elvis' All Shook Up - it has sounds placed throughout the soundstage. That's completely authentic for Elvis - his recordings have always used the whole soundstage. If you play this along with a bunch of his early stereo recordings, you won't get any clues from the stereo placement to be able to pick out which one is DES.Bottom line, this collection is as good as oldies get. Better, acutally, because of the new stereo. I tossed out everything Mono from my collection about 15 years ago, when I stopped listening in the car and now listen only on an audiophile system. I've been missing some of these songs. And for the songs on Eric CDs that I already had in stereo, I've found that the Eric version always sounds better than the old one.In case you were wondering, I have no connection with Eric Records, except as a happy customer. I hadn't bought a new rock/pop CD in over 15 years, until I discovered Eric. I liked their DES stereo so well that I've bought nearly everything they've made in the last few years. Please buy their stuff so they'll do well and keep making new stereo for my collection. :-) There are still lots of old Mono songs that I'd like to have again. There are many more of these oldies CDs. Their titles mostly start with "Hard to Find", if you want to search for them on Amazon. Or, they're all listed on the Eric Records web site.

21 Tracks In Stereo For The First Time! Incredible Sound Quality!
Yet another amazing compilation from Hit Parade Records! We get 21 tracks in stereo for the first time thanks to DES (digitally extracted stereo)! The clarity and crispness of these tracks is incredible, thanks to the sound engineers (including the amazing team of Mark Mathews and Walt Weiskopf), who have painstakingly tweaked these songs in order to sound their very best ever! The compilation features one gem after another. Songs that we never had imagined previously in stereo make their debut on this release. "Rock and Roll Is Here to Stay" (Danny & The Juniors") sounds just as good as the "At the Hop" stereo extraction from a couple years ago. The piano and harmonies jump out in the mix. This track is just one example of how digital extraction techniques can bring so much more out of a mono mix when remixed in to stereo."To Be Loved" (Jackie Wilson) is a classic that deserved to be heard in stereo, and here it is, at last! This gem had been on my want list for a while now. This one reminds me of the "Since I Don't Have You" (The Skyliners) stereo mix from a few years ago. The strings are buried in the mono mixes, but here they shine in stereo! Wilson's vocal performance is most impressive, revealing just how great his voice was, and it soars here! Stunning!People who remember the 1983 classic film, "Christine", may remember the use of "Bony Maronie" (Larry Williams) in Darnell's death scene. The DES treatment here gives this 1957 hit a chance to finally have presence in a new stereo mix. At last we hear all the crisp drums, brass, guitar, and vocals stand out! This is one of my favorites on the compilation.Several classics I had been wanting to hear in stereo since my discovery of DES. "Love Is Strange" (Mickey & Sylvia)" and "Sea of Love" (Phil Phillips with the Twilights) are two of my favorite songs, so I was thrilled to see them finally make a long overdue stereo appearance here. And what would a 50's compilation be without Buddy Holly? "Oh, Boy!" and "Peggy Sue" are classics, and all the instruments finally get room in these new stereo mixes!Previously released stereo hits even benefit greatly with brand-new stereo mixes, with "Endlessly" (Brook Benton) and "Broken-Hearted Melody" (Sarah Vaughan), becoming new favorites due to a previously unheard clarity. Let's not forget the Everly Brothers either! Two of their classics, "Poor Jenny" and "Take a Message to Mary", benefit hugely from new mixes!I could go on and on. Instead, please check out the Eric Records website for sound samples yourself! Your ears will thank you! This is a must-have release for anyone who enjoys new stereo, excellent sound, or oldies of the mid-to-late 1950's. Check out the informative liner notes, courtesy of Greg Adams, as well. A huge thank you to the engineers and the team behind this project. Incredible work, as always! Please consider purchasing and supporting this CD - and others from the same team at Eric Records - so that we will get more new stereo in the future!

"29 More Amazing Stereo Hits" Says It All
These guys just don't rest on their laurels between releases: this latest compilation brings you a whole new batch of first-time (or improved-upon-the-available) stereo treasures from the Golden Age of Pop Radio. You get new stereo treatments of classic Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Elvis and Everly Brothers tracks, but so much more.I confess first that I'm a sucker for harmony vocals and big drums and majestic strings, so my favorites here include "Mountain of Love" (beautiful stereo mix!), "Angel Face" (new to me with a fabulous vocal arrangement featuring The Blossoms) and Brook Benton's "Endlessly." Okay - and "You Are My Destiny," too (it just came on in my speakers as I'm typing).Other standouts include "So Rare" (it's like being there in the studio), Dion & The Belmonts' stunning "Where Or When" (amazing vocal separation), "To Be Loved" (again, there are instrumental nuances that I'd never noticed before) and "Sweet Little Sixteen." And then there's "Lonely Weekends." I can't believe that so many of these are first-time stereo. To top it off, the CD itself is really attractive with a nice matte-finished version of the cover art. Great liner notes (including chart info), PLUS you get seventy minutes of music...this is a must-add to any collection.

BEST SOUNDING 50's POP MUSIC EVER AND IN STEREO TOO
GOOD ASSORTMENT OF TRACKS AND A LOT OF THEM, SO GREAT VALUE. ALL TRACKS ARE STEREO, SOME FROM ORIGINAL AND OFTEN RARE SOURCES, OTHERS ARE MONO TO STEREO CONVERSIONS.All the many Cd's I have from Eric Records are superb quality, whether you like the music is up to you, I make no other comment about personal tastes, but the sound quality is near perfect considering some tracks are around 60 years old. I highly recommend this CD.
