Worked great for me.
I used the sander to refinish a maple table. I found the sander easy to use and effective. The dust collection is just okay. It will collect a good deal of dust, however there will still be dust everywhere. I used this inside of an apartment and my partner nicknamed me "little Chernobyl", after basically coating our apartment in dust. I don't think you can really avoid that though. Dust is small and is hard to contain. if you must work in an apartment like me, I suggest to do it in a small room and close all the doors. That will make clean up easier and contain the mess. You should also wear a face mask. It is especially bad to breathe in dust from sanding away wood coatings like poly. These can be very toxic. I wore gloves because the sander does make a bit of noise and feels scarily powerful in your hands. It helped buffer against the vibrations. I found that when I used the sander for a long time, my hands got really tingly. But most of the time this didn't happen. It only happened when I used it for a long time on the highest setting. The sander was very easy for me to use. Basically you have an on-off switch, a little dial which increases the strength of your sanding, and a removable bag that you twist off that collects the sawdust. I periodically dumped the bag out often, based on reviews here. Someone suggested to not let the dust accumulate too long because the bag could catch on fire. I assume this is from sanding a flammable coating. I did not experience any burning or burnt odors myself. I found that if you want to eat away at some wood in a concentrated area, you can slightly tip the sander on its side and it will dig into the wood pretty well. Not sure if this could be bad for your sander, but I did that and it worked for me when I wanted to remove the burnt area of the wood that went down fairly deep. I do not recommend buying the pads that come with the product. The reason I say this is because they are only one grit, and it is the lightest grit of sandpaper. This would be fine if you are only doing some light sanding. However, for most projects you will want a heavier grit too. So I suggest instead to get a wider range of grits. I purchased a set of sandpaper rounds ranging from 80(coarse) to 220(fine). I bought Mestool brand 125 mm 8 holes paper P-58 gold sandpaper Velcro. Overall, the sander worked really well. It nicely finished my table and I was really pleased with the results.

DeWalt quality at a decent price.
This was a quick / easy order and was delivered within 2 days. It was complete as described including the canvas DeWalt bags. I had earlier posted that the bag was missing but this was totally MY ERROR, old guys sometimes do stupid things and I am no exception. It is a fine product, shipped fast and should last a long time as I have other sanders just like it.

Most Excellent
Tool reviews are tough, it is rare that anyone leaving a review actually writes about how they used the tool, making it hard to understand if people are using the tool reasonably or for its intended purpose. Especially when they're leaving a bad review. For me, I'm using this to sand wood surfaces in preparation for finishing/painting. I'm not shaping the wood with this at all. I'm removing tool marks and going through the grits to bring it up to a perfectly level and smooth surface. I also let the tool do the work for me. I guide it, I don't force it into my project with "elbow grease". For that purpose this has worked great. It is easy to control. If being super picky, when using grits below 180 this sander does grab the wood a bit more and it takes more effort to control, but I wouldn't say it is hard to do so. Above 180 it is beyond easy to control, taking two fingers to guide it effortlessly. The Hook and Loop works well for me and my sandpaper. It stays put, period. The dust collection works well but not fantastic. The bag comes off and goes back on super easy. The only thing I don't like is this sander doesn't have a "soft start", it just fires up full blast right away. Not a deal breaker for me, especially with it being balanced and light weight. But it would be super nice. The only other thing I wish was a wider RPM range. 4,000-12,000rpm would be fantastic to have rather than its 8,000 to 12,000rpm. But oh well. I'm happy with my purchase!

Not one of Dewalt's better products (Amended)
I regret buying this Dewalt random orbital sander. The first issue is that it uses a proprietary system to attach the dust control. The system works well with the included dust bag which locks securely in place, but it is difficult to connect a shop vac hose. I purchased the Dewalt DWV9000 Universal Adapter so I could use my shop vac on the sander and I still had to add another third-party adapter to attach a standard 2 1/4” vac hose. The more significant issue is performance. It does not sand as well as the old Ridgid random orbital sander I was replacing. Even with very coarse 60 grit paper, it is slow to remove material from the surface. I really don’t know why it sands so poorly. The Dewalt speed control is nice, the sander is relatively quiet, and I like the location of the power switch. The poorly located power switch on my old Ridgid could occasionally be hit and switch to off when using the sander two-handed. I chose the Dewalt because I have two of their routers and a battery pack drill and all have worked flawlessly. This product (literally) doesn’t cut it. UPDATE FROM ORIGINAL 2-STAR RATING I have been using the Dewalt sander for several weeks now, and I found that hooking it up to a shop vac seems to improve its sanding ability significantly. I'm not sure why the vacuum would make a difference, but its enough to change my original 2-star rating to 4-stars.

Awesome- Awesome
This sander is tough & well balanced. Its first test was several hours of sanding “bondo” in 75’F & 50% humidity. The initial sanding stressed its power because of the grit and pressure used. I expected it to clog & over-heat, but it ran without any issues. It was quieter than expected. The sander’s size made it easy to hold. It is balanced very well and I used it on finishing coats by just moving it smoothly with just finger-pressure.

Fantastic, Small Orbital Sander; Must Have for DIY'er
I'm your average weekend warrior do-it-yourselfer and my wife asked me to refinish our wooden address sign recently. Now we inherited the address sign with the home when we purchased it and I'd estimate probably 30-ish years of painting and repainting caked onto that sign. After hitting it with some coarse sandpaper to get an idea of what I was working with I clearly needed the help of a mechanical sander. Enter the Dewalt DWE6423K Variable Speed Random Orbit Sander. ►Setup: There's not a lot to set up once you unbox this small orbital sander. Remove a bit of cardboard, glance over the small instruction booklet, undo a twisty tie and you're basically done. You'll, of course, need to purchase some compatible sandpaper; I purchased DEWALT DW4303 5-Inch 8-Hole 120-Grit Hook-and-Loop Random Orbit Sandpaper (5-Pack) and DEWALT DW4301 5-Inch 8 Hole 80 Grit Hook and Loop Random Orbit Sandpaper (5-Pack) for my little project though there are other options. ►Dust Bag: For my small project, I did not use my shop vac to connect to the sander. Now after reading several reviews, I'm not so sure I would be able to connect my shop vac to the sander anyway. Regardless, the small dust bag did a pretty good job of collecting the fine paint and wood dust as I worked around my address sign. The bag holds a good bit of dust meaning you're not emptying it every few minutes. If you intend to use this with a shop vac you will likely need to purchase an adapter based on my reading. ►Performance: This little orbital sander made short work of the paint on my address sign and I was down to bare wood in no time. The sander is smooth and easy enough to move around and I didn't feel like it was fighting me at all. Even finer details like sanding down the edges of my address sign were no problem at all. Changing the sanding paper pads is as easy as ripping one Velcro-secured pad off and slapping on the new one, just ensure you line up the holes on the bottom! ►In The Box: → Orbital Sander → Dust Bag → Toolbag with zipper → Owners information/warranty card ►Closing: I have no regrets about ordering this orbital sander. Honestly, I wish I'd ordered it years ago instead of being stubborn and hand sanding so many small projects. I'm a fan, recommended!

Don’t Buy The Dewalt Sandpaper - There’s Cheaper Alternatives
Well, as a former woodworker, it has been about 10 years since I’ve built anything, but The wife had a need for kitchen table, and with my sander in storage, I picked up this little number. I am currently without workshop space, so I opted to get the sander with the optional carrying bag, which is REALLY nice and keeping the house clean since sanders are the worst offenders for being messy. The bag itself isn’t all that, but it’s great at containing the mess and giving you a space to put the sandpaper. Sander itself works perfectly. I have a lot of Makita tools and look at that sander, but the dust catcher comes off easily when being used, so I went with the Dewalt. Although I wore a dust mask while sanding, the collection system is so good that you hardly seem to need it, but of course, I did wear it since it’s not perfect. I do prefer this sander over others because it also has the variable speed control. One thing I don’t like about this sander is that the on/off button could be designed better to be easier to use, but that’s a minor complaint. The switch is small and I can never remember which way to flick it since the way they’ve covered it with rubber doesn’t visibly show you how it’s oriented. Again, a minor complaint. Sanding paper attaches easily no matter the brand. I’d recommend staying away from Dewalt paper since it’s pricey. I picked up a 100 piece variety pack by Mestool for about 1/5th to 1/10th the price of the Dewalt paper; you really can’t beat that and it works perfectly fine. I hope this review was helpful. If you have any questions, just ask in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer them.

Saved me a lot of elbow grease
Mainly purchased this for personal home projects. So far it's found its use in a few resin related art projects, some woodworking, and a whole lot of car body work. I will just say, this orbital sander is great. Fantastic for all the above purposes. Just get ample amounts of sanding discs at different grits and off you go. The variable speed has allowed me to tackle anything from rust removal to scuffing and to polishing. If you're someone doing work as a hobbyist, DIYer, or semi professional this sander will be absolutely amazing for you. I will say one bad thing about it and it is the dust collection baggie. Not sure what it is suppose to do but thus far, that baggie has not really collected any dust during any sanding events. Perhaps the grits I've been using are too fine but I would definitely recommend you wear a respirator when working with this or any orbital sander. Don't trust the bag to catch all the dust, because chances are it won't. Otherwise, again, fantastic sander, great for anyone in need of one.
