Excellent build quality and sound
CD transport used with DACMagic 100 for CD reading and playback. Replacing a Marantz 6007 CD player, it’s a definite step up in sound and build quality. Detailed treble and midrange, deep bass, realistic wide soundstage, refined, neutral. Fast CD loading, track search, start/stop. The grey colour is nice but I prefer black.Minuses: remote control is a universal for all the CX range so most buttons are not relevant. CD functions from the remote are adequate but some may find lacking.NB: This is a CD transport ONLY meaning it has to be played through an external, separate DAC. The point of this is for better sound quality than a combined “CD player”, and custom tailoring of sound.Recommended at £449. It might be the last CD player you buy.

Replaced my Marantz 6005 cd player
Switched to Cambridge Audio from Marantz. I have a 6005 amplifier and cd player. Don't get me wrong Marantz sound is good but wanted Cambridge Audio for a long time and I have no regrets. The Cambridge CXA 81 sound stage is fantastic and of course I wanted to match it with CXC cd transport...perfect match! Very happy with the Cambridge sound.

Very detailed!!
Very good indeed, clear detailed sound, super bass control and detailed top end. I would recommend you listen if you are in the market for a very competitive transport as you would have to pay a lot lot more money to get better than this. The remote control could have better laid out but, I suppose the money has gone on the CD player.

Brilliant
It has a brilliant sound, a vast improvement over my previous Cambridge player. As a transport only it has the ability to pull out detail and bass.

Fantastic player
Upgraded from a older Cambridge Audio cd player and coupled with the Dacmagic 200m DAC the improvement is quite dramatic.Very high quality construction and finish, too.

Superb sound, but.....
I didn't award 5 stars all round for the simple fact that the only way to directly access an individual track on a CD is to repeatedly press the skip button. For example some CD's I own have tens of tracks, so should I want track 39 for example, it means pressing the skip button THIRTY NINE times. Ludicrous. I almost sent the thing back, except that the sound is truly a revelation, more depth, life and naturalness.Should anyone from Cambridge Audio be monitoring these reviews, would a universal remote control allow such access?

An excellent CD Transport for Digital connection to an amplifier
This great box fits brilliantly to the Cambridge Audio amplifier. It basically reads the CD to pass the data to the amplifier to turn into sound to play. So this is not a CD player. It just gets the digital data and passes it onto the the amplifier to take care of playing it.It can connect with a control lead to the Cambridge Amplifier so that when you turn that off and on this unit switches off and on as well

It plays CDs. And looks great too
Bought with the matching amp. Expensive and I don't know if I could tell the difference in sound quality from any other player. But it got a great review in What Hi Fi so I trust them. The remotes on both units are identical and you can use 1 remote for both. Very high quality finish and looks great. You can skip tracks but that is all, no track detail. Connection is optical digital only. Personally, I would have looked for a cheaper / more functional unit if I had not got the matching amp. But combined, I am very happy with them.
