Dogs: From a Sufi Point of View

i have read just about all of the author's works, although rarely putting revelations into practice. ummmm. well, one of my friends and i are avid dog lovers, so, when i saw this book, i got myself and my friend copies to read. the author finds within dogs many of the blessings and characterizations of Allah! he essentially sets up dogs to be heaven sent creatures, which, we dog lovers already knew that our dogs were gifts from god. the author writes in brief, usually stories of one paragraph, each one transmitting a message or learning for the reader. as always, sublime brilliance is found page after page. A+. this is fun and educational! it is highly recommended!

If you have experienced the loving relationships that can happen between dogs and humans, the information in this book can aid you by providing alternate world perspectives from this culture, its people, and the religion. I’m a college student studying philosophy within religions and their impact on society. Mystic Islam aka Sufism attempts to evade the orthodoxy in order to have a relationship with god, excluding all the extremist psychotic behavior that fundamentalists use to oppress Muslims under sharia law throughout our world. I personally believe that all religions oppress the mind, and that all religions are the main cause our world is in such great turmoil. However, it’s not always easy to “put yourself in someone else’s shoes” and these stories help. Dr. Javad Nurbakhsh is a highly respected Sufi order’s leader, teacher and scholar; his selections provide ideas that can be conversation pieces if you are a scholar, student, or just someone trying to make new friends. It is always wise to do a little self-reflection for understanding how you’re impacting the world. If you have any interest in Islam I recommend this book and especially some additional research into the origins of Sufism. Great Little Book-

I love this book. As a muslim and a dog lover, I am often discouraged by our faith's misperceptions vis a vis dogs. This book sets it straight. Dogs are indeed in many ways the road to attainment of greater spirituality. I enjoyed reading the Sufi tales of dogs and their positive contributions to our lives. This book is well written, well translated and informative.
