OK for the price, but casual about small details such as wandering or omitted page numbers.
If it was a car, would be "Engine good, body needs work." Content appears brief, but accurate.Definitely no-frills and no illustrations, except for a dramatic full-color rendering of Yosemite's El Capitan on the cover.

Liked La Counte's El Capitan for Beginners
Short and to the point and doesn't go on for 500 pages and it has some useful information for those new to the iMac.

Poorly done
Very superficial and not worth reading. Also, looks like it was self-published and not edited- page numbers are referred to in the table of contents, but only pages 85-89 are numbered.

Help it's A Mac!!!!!
Bought this for a friend who bought a new Mac. He said it was extremely helpful since (one) no technical information about the operating system and its use were included withthe new computer and (two) he didn't have any experience with the Apple Mac.

Simple but effective
For high powered Mac users this may not be your book. For me, it was simple techniques that made using my computer for basic personal needs a little smoother.

Just switched to Mac from PC
Just started reading and using this when the Great Flood of 2016 hit South Louisiana so I haven't gotten very far into to it but so far it has been easy to understand and I think its will answer my Mac OS X questions.

Getting your first Mac? You need this book
It is what it says on the cover! A great starter book for those new to Mac Os X. Begins with the absolute basics and gets you up and running. Large size, clear text, readable and easy to understand in manageable chunks. Even has tables of terminology comparisons between Windows and Mac - really useful for people who already know their way around Windows.Once you've reached the end of this book the logical next step (if more help is required) is David Pogue's Missing Manual which has much much more information and covers areas like Pages and Numbers. But that's a thick, detailed and daunting tome for a beginner to use. This Complete Beginner's guide is none of those things. Highly recommended.

Excel etc are pretty important to me
Yes it's ok, but that's all. Basic, but no information as I had hoped on using Pages, Numbers and Keynote !!! These being the equivalent of Word, Excel etc are pretty important to me. I now have to look elsewhere.

It is exactly what it says it is
It is extremely basic - the barest of essentials - designed for the absolute novice - but if someone with limited knowledge and/or switching to Mac, this will certainly get them up and running but there are guides on the newstands in WH Smiths at £9.99 which do the job an awful lot better, are really well illustrated and equally suitable for the complete novice or switcher.

Worst Book Purchase Ever!!!
This is my worst book purchase ever and I had to pay for delivery!! Many of the pages are blanks type size and spacing is very big so it appears to take up a lot of space and the information is very superficial. I found one item that I thought oh yes that is useful. I am new to a Mac having converted from Windows so my only basis was common sense to operate my new iMac. Do not waste your money Google will give you all the info here in seconds.

Not what it says on the cover ...
Returning it today, not what it says on the cover ... I particularly wanted info on photos/albums/memory sticks etc and there was nothing at all useful, have arranged for a refund ... maybe useful as a beginners guide but certainly not 'complete'
