Works wonders!
Being new to dreads I wasn't really sure what to expect. I have thin caucasian kinda wavy hair that isn't ideal to dread and this worked wonders. It really helped to tame my frizzy brand new dreads and keep them kinda organized where I could let them begin to dread together without looking like a birds nest was made on my head. It also did not leave any residue in my hair - it all washed out really well with a 50/50 mix of apple cider vinegar and water. I did order the knotty boy wax to try to get the hairs at the end of each dread to form up and roll into the dreads but that was a TERRIBLE mistake - I highly recommend against. Just stick with this gel and aloe vera for quick touch ups and you will be good to go!

Nice light scent. Great locking gel.
I purchased this item to help get my sons new dreads to form. His hair wasn't very long and he didn't want to wait for his hair to go out. He has a combination of fine and course straight hair. I used the thin gel to start the locks. It does get flaky and hard if you mess with it too much, but since I was using it at the start, I just spritzed his hair with water and continued to work on it. It was fine. After I was all done, he left it for a couple of days and then washed it out and dried it well. The flakes were gone and the hair was soft. Every few days we would work the small hairs back in, apply the gel and palm roll. The gel worked perfectly and helped keep his dreads neat. -1 star for the flaking but other than that, this gel was awesome. Too bad my son ended up cutting all his dreads off a few months later. I don't think he realized it was going to take as much work as it did to get them started.

positives and negatives
I've had my dreads for about 5 months.Started with wax which just weighed down my hair, water proofed it, and made it feel like greasy funky causing build up. Washed my hair really good with doctor brauners, and slapped some lock steady in it. Hooray! It NEVER made my scalp itch because I wasn't a dummy and I didn't put it on my freaking scalp!! It feels a little sticky at first until it drys, but duh that's why it holds your hair to toghether and calls frizzies. While it's damp roll each one a bit, and hit with a dryer if you want. Once it's dry it's a little crunchy like you just got out of the ocean. Feels great really. I don't personally do much maintenance on mine because I find that crochet just damages and rolling just takes to long, either way lock steady smells good and helps to keep things calm and together.

Disappointing
This product was extremely sticky on my fingers and made it very hard to actually twist my hair. My fingers were sticking to everything. Once it finally dried, there was white build up in my locs and it made my hair very hard and crunchy. I bought this product specifically to avoid product build up. I read on another site that this tightening gel wouldn't do that, but I guess not. Would not buy again.

Ehhhh
well at first i was really disappointed because i paid for this expecting a dread wax like other knottyboy waxes.so i opened it up twisted off the cap and was really surprised when i touched it but whatever i put it on a spot thats nothing close toa dread (my dreads are a year old basically fully matured except problem places)and twisted and ripped and it was undone it probably 15 minutes.so it definitely not like the wax. but then i realized that it wasnt for that (about 5 minutes ago) and applied about a 2 quarter size amount on all of mydreads at once and it dried SUPER FAST and it smells AMAZING!!and after they dry they look nice and i can see how over time this could work. but not for little dreadies :Pso now im buying wax!

What a nice treat! LOVE this product.
This stuff is great. It's a clear, thin gel that you can apply a very small amount to each dreadlock or, (as I do), run your coated fingers lightly through your locks 1-2 times while they're damp, and then palm roll a wee bit. They feel a bit sticky until they're dry, so I hit them with some low heat from the blow dryer to accelerate the drying. USE SPARINGLY. This product keeps loose hair from escaping the dreadlock and encourages new growth and frizz to stay with their friends and not mingle too much. There is no scent to this when it's dry, and used in the correct amount on my (curly, Caucasian) hair, it's neither drying nor oily. It's perfect, my dreadlocks are so happy with this and they get their fix once a week :)

Very happy
I was very pleased with this locksteady tropical tightening Gel. My dreads are about 15 months old. In the jar the tightening gel has a tropical/citrus smell but when it dried on my dreads it leaves a very pleasant clean smell. This product is an awesome alternative to wax. I have been very hesitant to put wax in my dreads and this is very far from wax. It really tightened my dreads and pulled in some loose hairs I had. It also did not make my dreads super stiff or feel like concrete. I would definitely recommend this product. Thanks. Kyle

Causes Flaking!
Wish I could return it. Made hair harder, okay since it is a "gel", but caused flaking immediately. Also, as hard as locks felt after applying this gel, it still didn't do much as far as holding locks. Not sure why people like this product, but anyone want to buy a "used once" jar from me for really cheap???
