The Amish Blacksmith (Volume 2) (The Men of Lancaster County)

Solid Amish Story
The second book in the Men of Lancaster County is about Jake. Jake is Tyler's (Book 1) uncle, but they grew up as brothers. Jake left his father's buggy shop because he wanted to be a farrier. He has a kinship with horses and yearns to open his own blacksmith shop one day. He's been apprenticing as a blacksmith shop and things have been going well. Then one day the family welcomes home Priscilla. Priscilla's mom died years ago and Priscilla couldn't handle the grief so she was sent to live with relatives in another town. Now,she's back and Jake's boss has asked him and his girlfriend Amanda to make Priscilla feel welcome and get her interested in young people's activities. It's not exactly what Jake wants to do but he likes his job and he knows he must help out his community. If only Priscilla wasn't a volatile person. Rude one moment and quiet the next.Jake is also working with horses on his downtime. He likes to find out what is wrong with them and help "cure" them. He knows they must be able to trust their owner and he works on building those relationships. But no matter how hard Jake tries, with Amanda, Priscilla, or the horses, things begin to go awry in his life.He needs to do some praying, make some changes, and unravel a few mysteries of his own as his life journey makes many changes. A great addition to the series; I enjoy reading in the male's perspective. I thought there was way too much horse information though. I did enjoy reading how things worked but it was a bit overkill. Also, Priscilla was a bit prickly which really took a while to like her character. But all in all, a good solid story and I look forward to the next in the series.

The Amish Blacksmith
This is book 2 in The Men of Lancaster County Series by Mindy Starns Clark and Susan Meissner"The Amish Blacksmith"Jake Miller is a talented blacksmith and horse-gentler, he works for Kinsingers and within a year will be finished with his apprenticeship. Life is good. He has been courting the beautiful Amanda and his dream of owning his own business will happen soon.Priscilla Kinsinger's life started to unravel the day her dad died, then her mother passed several years later and this young girl never recovered. With no real friends she spends her time with her beloved horses, that was once her fathers, problem is people start to talk which Priscilla could care less but after time she withdraws more and more and never recovering for the passing of her mothers passing her Uncle and Aunt feel it's time young Priscilla move away.Six years have passed and Priscilla has come home,Jake remembers the little cute tomeboy Priscilla who would come to the blacksmith shop and spend time with the horses, but the woman that returned is not a tomeboy anymore. .Together these two characters butt heads and at the same time there is something that draws them together.I can't say enough about this book I have a review of book 1 in the series and this book does not disappoint either. It's like a story within a story, kinda like looking back into your life to find your true path. These Authors have really hit it out of the park with this series it's outstanding I can't wait for book 3 and 4. Please do yourself a favor and read this series and then reccomend it to someone else.

Having dreams
A story told.by Jake, of finding the path he wanted for his life work. It was expected to follow his father in the making of buggies. His love was with horses and being a farrier, and a horse whisper. Priscilla comes back in the area after six years. She too has a gift with horses, and preferring the to people. His mother’s advice on who to marry, for God to chose, not him. A good story of the young finding their place,in love and work

A good story
This book was a little slow in the beginning but I enjoyed every part. It took different twists and turns which made it much more complex than you thought at first. Some of it was easy and predictable but the rest was deep and mind opening. I loved how it went from superficial to very inward and contemplative. That saved it for me.I would suggest reading it. There is more to it than first meets the eye.

Way Above Average !
This very interesting novel is supported by obvious research and details that drew me to look beyond the book itself. This is excellent writing!

Also the Best Amish Romance of the Year!
I just wrote a glowing review for the first book in the series, but I could copy and paste the whole thing and put it here. This is also the best Amish book I've read all year, except for the first book in this series!Mindy Starns Clark has a firm grasp of the genre, of Amish culture, and novel writing in general. This book was a delight to read. You will not find typos, dangling modifiers, missing words, or other careless mistakes here. What you will find is a well-written, deeply moving inspirational story of a young man's growth after he has been baptized and before he takes a wife.I loved all of the characters in this book! I was sorry only to see it end, and hope that book 3 will not be far behind.I simply cannot say enough good things about this book.

Wonderful Read!
I am a fan of Mindy Starns Clark, butv am a bit leery of some Amish fiction. Sometimes I think the people don't have a relationship with God, but focus is on the Bishop and rules like shunning? I so appreciate the real life spiritual emphasis in these books. I finish being encouraged in my own Christian walk! Truly a gift of a good Christian writer. Can hardly put these books down!

I have to say this fiction deserves all 5stars and then some. This is one of those stories of fiction that has depth. If you like Amish fiction you will truly enjoy this book. The author truly put a lot of care and thought into this book. It really needs to be read .

I liked the characters and found it easy to pick up ...
Second book in the Men of Lancaster County series. I found the first book superb and was anxious to read this one.I liked the characters and found it easy to pick up where the first book left off. Jake is finally well on his way to becoming a blacksmith and is anxious to fulfill his apprenticeship, marry and settle down in Lancaster County. But the best laid plans don't always materialize! This book spent some time summarizing the first novel and I felt it was repetitious causing me to skim forward. Also found a couple instances where there was too much explaining/telling and not enough showing which meant I continued scanning. It wasn't compelling reading, but I did want to find out what happened so I continued skimming until the end. Please note that there were sections I found very interesting and I was glued to the page. In my opinion, a better editor would have tightened the reading, tension and pacing to make this novel superior than what was actually delivered. 3.5 stars. Disappointed that I didn't like this book better and hoping the next instalment by these two great authors will meet my expectations.

Highly Recommended
This book held me captive from beginning to end. It is written like a diary and it had me feeling so many different feelings. This story drew me in completely and it helped me actually face some things in my own life. I highly recommend this book.
