The authority on the Sherman M4
Richard Hunnicutt’s Sherman M4 research is seen has the principle authority and the cornerstone from which other works are produced. This paperback book did not disappoint, it is a very comprehensive and excellent work, on the development and production of the Sherman Medium Tank including the numerous variants developed and produced. It is a large volume for a paperback and should be handled with care to avoid damage.

This is the standard reference work on US medium tanks ...
This is the standard reference work on US medium tanks and their derivatives from the WW 2 period. The production quality of the Presidio Press editions is exceptional with the reproduction of wartime photographs being very clear.

Very Good.
Excellent book. Print could be better though.

Not worth the hype.
If you can get this book at a price no more than £40 and you dont already have a lot of Sherman reference then you should consider buying it.As a stand alone book it is very good especially given the age of the original publication.I have had the original and this reprint, the reprint is good but of inferior quality, the publisher states otherwise. From my review the content is the same and to be honest I wouldn't put this back to buy the original unless they were the same price. Its a big book and there is a lot of information in it much of which is interesting but of little use to the likes of model builders. If you can find it you would be better investing your money in the Ampersand Son of Sherman book.Bottom line is the original book is no where near as good as the hype and definitely not worth the money being asked for it . This could be a good compromise but £40 is the top end of its value and I'm being generous.

The best adescription and analysis of The Sherman in print(pity about the quality of the print!
The Hunnicutt series and particularly this volume, will remain the definitive history of American Armoured vehicles to 2010. Unfortunately this reproduction volume is a real cheapo-badly bound;badly photo-copied and the quality of the photos are terrible.I had assumed it would have been printed somewhere in the third world but surprisingly -it was in the USA!.The Info-magnificent!.The Printing-dreadful and they ought to be ashamed of themselves.!

Book was damaged
It was an expensive book but came with a corner cover and a few pages creased. Not worth sending it back but still not worth what I paid for it.

Still THE Must-Have Resource for the Detail Oriented Reader
I already have many of the original Hunnicutt series, and I simply wanted to offer my opinion of the new edition.First off, Hunnicutt continues to be the gold standard of books on the technical aspects of US tank design and development. Content wise, these are can't-go-wrong purchases for the detail oriented reader. There were concepts tested that I read about for the first time in this book, particularly in the area of mine clearing, as well as others that dated back much further than I previously guessed. It's always cool to learn something new about a subject that you previously thought you know fairly well.I purchased a soft-cover edition. I can honestly say that I am entirely satisfied with the quality of this edition the book. Normally, I would have gone for the hard cover, but having the soft cover in hand, I can't say that I'm disappointed with my choice. I'm not sure that the additional expense would have been worth it. OTOH, with a book this thick, sometimes a hard cover wears better. It's up to you whether you want to spring for the additional expense. I would acknowledge, however, that compared to the ORIGINAL hard cover editions, some of the line drawings in the new edition appear to be slightly less sharp. The difference in sharpness, however, was by no means a significant detriment. If I hadn't have read complaints from other reviewers on this subject, I personally might not have noticed the difference. I'm very glad they put this back into print.

Brilliant
As anybody who is remotely interested in US tanks knows, J.P. Hunnicutt is the documentarian of American Armor. 600 pages covering every facet of the development of the Sherman tank, and unlike other books, stretches back to the M2, and how it relates, through the M3, and all the various versions of the Sherman. 600 pages, thousands of diagrams and photographs. If you are a tank aficionado, this book is MUST HAVE. And the old hard backs were $5-6 hundred dollars. These reprints are a tenth of that. You can spend HOURS with the pictures and diagrams, many straight from the manuals, without ever looking at the text. The Sherman is famous for its versatility, but this volume astounded me with photos of obscure one-offs, prototypes, and field modifications.Your reference library is begging for this book. There is a blank spot on a shelf, and your library will sigh with relief when SHERMAN by R.P. Hunnicutt fills it.
