Truely Effective - I am now a believer
UPDATE: 22 June 2019 - It has been 4 weeks that the balls have been up. Yellow fly Swanson is pretty much over but in the last 4 weeks the amount of flys seemed to reduce dramatically after I installed the bug balls. Updated photos were added and you can see how many of the little son of a guns that got. Almost all the insects stuck to the bug balls are yellow flys. The bug balls are still sticky so I'm going to leave them up just in case there are a few yellow flys still out there. --------- Original review: Yellow fly season has just startred in South Alabama. I purchased this kit based on other reviews. I am a believer. These pictures are less than 24 hours after installing these devices. There are approximately 3 dozen yellow flies already stuck. Time will tell if this product reduces these annoyance of these pests, but 3 dozen less is a good start.

Waste of money
This was a waste of time and money. I’ve had these up for a couple weeks, and I’ve sprayed them multiple times. They are barely sticky and have only caught a few small bugs. Compare that to the cheap sticky fly trap I’ve included a picture of, and you can see that is doing a much better job.

Good idea, but hasn’t caught a horsefly yet.
Great idea, but it hasn’t caught a single horsefly in my barn area. My poor 33 year old horse would be covered in sores from nasty horsefly bites, and I have wracked my brain trying to find a trap or other way to exterminate these nasty buggers without having to constantly douse my horse in chemicals. I generously sprayed the ball and hung it in an area with no shade near where my horse gets attacked the worst. I live in north Texas and the horse flies are the worst in June. I got this in early July, so maybe that’s why it hasn’t caught one, although my horse still has multiple bites per day. I also reapplied the sticky spray to give it a good covering. The horse flies we have out here are huge, about the diameter of a quarter, so they may be too big to get stuck on it too. Overall I like the idea of it, and hope I have better luck next season.

Balls are good but spray is weak - get the brushable coating instead of the spray!
I've been dealing with horse flies for years now- I've made my own "trap" and placed them around my property and along the driveway. What I found was the Trangle-Trap (SPRAY) is great for smaller flies or indoor use, but it does not have nearly enough 'sticky power' for use outside. What I found works better is the Tangle-Trap Sticky Coating - same thing as a the spray but in a can that you brush on. The coating goes on much thicker, it lasts better though the rain, and I find that there is a much higher chance of a horse fly sticking to it (and getting stuck) than with a spray. I recommend pouring it onto the ball and using rubber gloves to spread it around the ball instead of using the brush. If you check out my photos, you'll find my pictures of my home-made setup using scrap wood and old cat5 wire I had. When these "bug balls" are not available, I use kids bounce balls that have the rubber handle- they work just as good and are slightly larger. - 3 stars for the spray, balls are 5 star quality

Impressive
This thing works.. will it eradicate every single deer fly from your property? No. But it catches quite a bit and it’s just plain satisfying seeing them all stuck to the ball, versus biting me or my dog. Only complaint is the spray doesn’t stay sticky on the ball for more than a couple days, so need to reapply often.

Not Sticky Enough
The coating is not sticky enough. I coated the balls liberally with the coating, then watched a deer fly land and somewhat get stuck. A few moments later, it flew away. After reading some reviews, I sprayed even more on the balls and used up the entire can yesterday. When I came home this evening, the flies were swarming the balls, but not one fly was stuck. I watched several land and fly off. The balls on the other hand seem to attract the Flys. Definitely not worth the money for these blue balls without a sticky substance on them. The spray needs work.

Wipes deer flies out!
I’ve bought this kit every year for four years now! It lowers the amount of deer flies drastically. The balls pictured are only day 3 of trapping. Pros: traps deer flies easily Not toxic Easy to use Cons: you will need to reapply the sticky film after every rain and when the sun is beating down on the balls. I reapply weekly at minimum. I also scrape the excess flies off twice a month or so to keep the ball blue (deer flies are attracted to blue).

I only wish I could buy the spray tanglefoot separately.
I have 8 of these around the yard at our cottage. It has kept the deer flies and green eyed flies down to a bearable summer during the hot days when these flies are at there peak.
