SMH....
I am a devout King fan. I promised myself that I would watch every movie adaption of his books. So, despite all the negative reviews, I watched Cell. I truly felt like I was watching a high school production of the book. Awful. Just awful. There was sort of 5 minutes of the beginning of the book, then about 10 minutes of the middle of the book, then nothing much else like the book. I have to be honest here. It's not just because the movie wasn't a lot like the book. The movie itself was crap. Poor direction, poor production, poor script, and the acting was less than par coming from John Cusack and Samuel L Jackson. However, it must have difficult for them working with the script, direction, and production they had to deal with. The only good thing I can say about watching this movie is that I added another check mark to my watch/read list?? My advice is, if you are really bored and have nothing to do, watch a FREE version of this movie. DO NOT PAY ANYTHING to watch this movie.

Boring and nonsensical
Cell is not a very good movie. The book - more of a novella than a standard King-length novel - was a decent sort of thriller. I didn't interpret the book as decrying the evils of cell phones / technology, but rather an interesting allegory for anything that's ubiquitous. Almost everyone has a cell phone, moreso even than cars or computers. More people across the world own cell phones than television sets, even. With a product with so much market saturation, it's kind of a neat thought experiment to consider it going bad.The movie, though, is a boring zombie flick. Like every zombie movie, the world immediately goes to hell instantly - everyone, everywhere, is swept up. What about the legions of people not on their cell phones during the day? Kids at school, teachers, people at work, people driving, people watching movies, etc.? Never explored. Also, John Cusack is a neat guy, but, dang, he needs to stop dyeing his hair. He looks awful in this movie.

I watched it free with ads on iMDB through Amazon......and, boy, am I glad I did! If I'd paid for this movie it would've hurt me. Make my heart crack.Ok, for the movie itself, as someone else said the acting was sub-par, and I fully agree. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't 1408, either. It was not scary at all (I'm not sure it was meant to be, though, as I didn't read the book), but I could totally understand how a book version of this story could definitely be written to nestle quite well within the horro genre - it has a lot of promise! The movie just doesn't do the idea justice.Possible spoilers:It's just done, well, kinda dumb. The whole time I was thinking two things: 1) This is kinda boring, and 2) why don't they use ear plugs/muffs? I never once wondered who the guy in the red hoodie was, even though they wanted him to be a focal point as the 'bad guy'; I didn't care about his back story, even though they wanted to present pieces of one. I think it's because it was all so chopped up that presenting these parts of the story just didn't matter (even though they could've been great!). But yeah, wearing hearing protection would've solved some of their problem, which would've led to a different ending.I dunno, I guess such a simple concept to me made the whole thing boring.

Not like the book at all
I'm a fan of Stephen King's and I read this book when it first came out. The book was one of King's better stories and I loved every minute of it, so you can imagine how excited I was to see the movie was finally made. I'm so disappointed in this whole movie, it was way different from the book almost like the screenwriter wanted to make sure his style was there instead of just doing an adaptation. The beginning of the movie starts off with promise and moves quickly full of action and some gore. Then as the movie progresses it's like a different movie completely. What is missing is the characters development and lack of emotion. It was just not engaging, which made the movie boring. I know with all the action from the beginning it changes the pace of the movie completely. Not to give anything away, the ending of the movie was completely different from the book, which if done right would have maybe been ok but it was just bad. It was like the writer was trying too hard to do a twist ending but had no idea how to do one at all and totally messed it up. They should have just stuck with the book and let it stand on it's own.I gave it two stars only because it started off great. I'd say read the book and skip this movie.

Worst ever Stephen King book adaptation.
Absolutely terrible.I absolutely love Stephen Kings books, but unfortunately they never move over into film very well, but this has to be the worst script EVER. It is unrecognisable as the book, and the story is absolutely all over the place. If I hadn't read the book, I wouldn't have had a clue what was going on. As the plot develops, you become more and more lost. Nothing is explained, and the ending is absolutely pathetic.

Decent Stephen King adaption
John Cusack, Samuel L Jackson and author Stephen King reunite after the hugely successful 1408. The story - anyone using a cell phone (err almost everyone) goes crazy and picks up a deadly 'rage' virus. Cue plenty of violence and foaming at the mouth. So this is essentially yet another zombie movie, but the opening 15 minutes in the airport is fantastic. Although most reviews have been unkind on this film, I believe it could reach the cult classic status in a few years as there are some great scenes. I have to give particular respect for showing a death scene with a bat across the back of a head which neither results in instant death or survival, but shows the realistic outcome of severe brain damage, followed by a slow and painful death. Not the greatest film of the year, but much, much better than most reviews would have you believe.

It’s good
Think of 28 Days/Weeks later mixed with sci-fi. The premise is really interesting and it’s very well acted. A lot of the reviews of this film are harsh. The only draw back I can say about it is the ending.SPOILER:Basically, the last part shows you something pretty epic and heroic, but it turns out to be an illusion. They could’ve had the same ending without trying to trick us.I will say this, it’s still a better ending than in the book. At least here we get a solid answer to what happened.

Confusing Plot
This starts with a good premise of beware of technology.Plenty of action. Then a subplot evolves of a comic book character created by the main lead ( John Cusak )which switches between a real and imaginary person.I then became confused and so did the plot. The final action scenes were exciting but the writers appeared to have no idea how to conclude the story, the final scenes left me puzzled.

Poor
The write up for what its about sounds really good and i cannot fault Cusack or Jackson's acting, this movie was dire. I think it was bad director because the story sounds fantastic on paper, but not in reality.Avoid.
