Review: Excellent 2.5G Upgrade for QNAP — Rock-Solid Connection - Got this Plugable 2.5G adapter to boost throughput on my QNAP TS-653A NAS, and it has worked out great. After getting the appropriate driver loaded on the QNAP, the NAS detected the adapter immediately and has maintained a rock-solid, stable 2.5Gbps connection without dropouts, packet loss, or thermal issues. The dual-connector USB-C / USB-A head is a smart touch that makes it versatile for troubleshooting other systems as well. Outstanding performance for the price.
Review: Good price and good unit. - I plugged this into my HP Elitebook 850 G8 running Win11 Pro and it was connected automatically and connected right away. I'm getting peak speeds of 2.0Gbps file transfers of a 2.9GB test file with sustained speeds of 1.88Gbps between the PC and a NAS capable of saturating a 10Gb line through my QNAP QSW-2104-25-A switch. Enabling jumbo frames with a 9k MTU bumped those numbers up 10%. I'll probably never do iPerf testing but I went from 6.3 to 9.0Gbps with the same laptop and a 10Gbit thunderbolt adapter when enabling jumbo frames (a 40% increase) so this product might be bottle-necked a little shy of 2.5Gbps (or the laptop has a USB3.0 bottleneck not on Thunderbolt). Either way 2.2Gbps for $29 is a screaming deal--I immediately bought another for the family PC to shorten the nightly backups to the NAS. The unit also runs pretty cool. The only real fault is an annoyingly bright cold white activity light.

I plugged this into my HP Elitebook 850 G8 running Win11 Pro and it was connected automatically and connected right away. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Does the job at a reasonable price

Full disclosure, I used this for a very specific use case. I recently upgraded my entire home network to 2.5 GBe and while all of my computers already had NICs that could handle that, my Synology DS920+ didn't. For the uninitiated, this NAS is actually a great little package that has most of the features of its bigger counterparts, with the exception of native 2.5 GBe support (neither on-device nor through expansion). This adapter was on the community sourced list of 2.5 GBe adapters that would work for the upgrade. I can confirm that it works. It takes a little bit of setup on the device, but once you enable it and install the driver, it works perfectly. I'm actually kinda glad since this probably ends up costing a fraction of what it would be if Synology offered a first party solution. This dongle is small enough to tuck away behind the NAS so that it's completely out of sight and I'm able to saturate it fully with around 200 MB/s transfer speeds, which is definitely an upgrade from the 90 MB/s that I'm used to seeing. I did briefly also test this on my M1 Macbook Pro (since the onboard wifi card is actually kinda terrible) and can confirm that I was able to get full throughput on that device as well.
