Russian for Beginners

This book makes learning Russian easier than I ever imagined. It beats anything new on the market including Rosetta Stone. Everything in simply broken down bit by bit, and very carefully organized into well thought out chapters. This book does not teach you sentences to memorize so you can just speak what you know. It breaks it down and teaches you the sentence structures, formulating nouns, verbs, adjectives; as well as how to properly arrange words in the sentence correctly to not sound like a foreigner. By the time you get to the end of the book, you are able to fluently read entire paragraphs and excerpts from books. They also give a list of the next books to buy to continue and advance your studies which I found helpful. The three books recommended were all from three different authors so they really aren't trying to make an extra dollar off of you, just give you some good help!

This book really forces you to tackle the nuts and bolts of the Russian language which makes learning it somewhat less daunting. The lessons are systematically arranged to enhance understanding rather than simple memorization and highlights areas of weakness one needs to correct to learn Russian competently.

Огромное Срасибо, Макаров и Дуфф!! Great and comprehensive guide to Russian. Russian language and literature was my major in college and this is perhaps the best Russian grammar break down, I've seen. Highly recommend to ALL levels of non-Heritage speakers.

It's a bit dated and as others have said it lacks exercises. Also I've noticed that maybe this book would be better for British English speakers more than American English speakers.

Still the best Russian language guide out there, Some of the language is getting a little dated, but it clearly explains Russian grammar and is an excellent resource for Russian learners.

Avoid like the plague. It's not a way to learn a language at all. It's hundreds of pages of grammar rules but no practice, no engaging layout, and nothing to motivate you to want to open it.
