The Shining: Extended Cut [Blu-ray] [2019] [4K UHD]

There is no "extended cut". There is the U.S. theatrical cut (what they are calling "extended") that runs 144 minutes and the European cut that runs 119 minutes. After hearing of audience and critical reactions not being what he wanted, he went back and re-cut the film, taking out 25 minutes. Before the film even opened but AFTER all the copies had been sent to theaters, Kubrick had theater operators cut out a 2 minute coda sequence! Here is the very interesting thing about all of this... apparently, Kubrick thought of the U.S. version AND the European version as director's cuts. BOTH. He approved of both of them. Put his seal on both of them. And with as much control as he had over every aspect of the movie, if he didn't want one of these versions out there...it wouldn't be out there. That said, since his death, it is more difficult to find the trimmed down European version (especially in higher quality), which many feel to be scarier and more psychologically jarring.

I really enjoyed this film and this 4K version is superior. I ordered this version stating in the name that it was going to be a steelbook, but as you can see in the photos in just normal 4K plastic case, i’m not to angry because was relatively cheap, but just beware that is is definitely not a steelbook version of this movie. Other than that case came in great condition no damage considering it was shipping to me here in NSW Australia, always quick international shipping with Amazon 👍🏻

Filme excepcional, ótima versão.

Eine der besten, wenn nicht sogar die beste 4K Disc die ich besitze. Die Bildqualität ist sehr überzeugend. Dolby Vision gibt dem ganzen ein schönes, kontrastreiches Bild, das in dem man sich teilweise auch verliert, weil es sich so echt anfühlt (besonders schön sehen die Bar-Szenen aus). Nur am Anfang ist das Filmkorn vielleicht etwas störend, wenn man sich übermäßig darauf fokussiert, aber der Film ist schließlich fast 50 Jahre alt. Für das Alter wurden echt viele Details rausgeholt. Der Ton ist auch in Ordnung (englische Tonspur), Dolby Atmos wäre hier auch überflüssig gewesen. Der Film an sich ist Geschmacksache, ich persönlich kann mich sehr an dem Ambiente des Hotels erfreuen, sodass der Film für mich mehr als nur bloßer psychologischer Horror ist. Insbesondere will ich hervorheben, dass die amerikanische Version um einiges besser ist, als die "internationale", weil mehr Kontext geliefert wird, vor allem aber weil besser Spannung aufgebaut wird. Vertreter gegenteiliger Ansicht haben sich wohl zu sehr an die kurze Version gewöhnt. 5 / 5 , sehr zufrieden, würde ich wieder kaufen

There are few people who would have been able to act the role of Jack Torrance as well as Jack Nicholson, who, in my humble opinion is an outstanding actor. It is rare that a film from the 1980s can be as good today as it was when it first came out, but I believe this is one of them. I bought the 4K version of this because I wanted to see this in jaw dropping colour on my 4K TV, and my old DVD wasn't really quite up to scratch. The quality of the conversion to 4K of this iconic movie was amazing, the colours were awesome and the picture clear. I was transported back to my teens when classic lines from the movie such as "Here's Johnny" and "Redrum, Redrum" were spoken. The credits were very old fashioned, plain in style, but the movie itself has, in my opinion, lost none of its suspense; it still kept me on the edge of my seat for nearly two and a half hours. If you like horror movies, Steven King stories or Jack Nicholson, then you are bound to enjoy this blast from the past, especially in its stunning 4K reproduction.
