Great for the price. Sturdy daybed, but not a good couch substitute.
This daybed was a great purchase for when our 9 year old niece and her 3 year old brother stay on the weekends. Our niece adores the bed and won't let her brother on her upper mattress. If you're an adult and wanting to use this, you probably don't want to be over 200 pounds, and then I would say it's not for a full-time option because it's just not as sturdy as a full-sized bed to me. It IS a good size and nice and sturdy for kids or smaller teens. It's plenty large enough. We paired it with an 8 inch pillowtop mattress for the upper and a 6 inch, less robust, foam-type mattress for the lower from a local Big Lots store so we could see and return the mattresses if there was a problem more easily. Good thing, because the upper one we first got had oil stains and had to be swapped. These sizes have worked PERFECTLY for this bed with no issues. An eight inch mattress on top leaves a little more than one full back and end boards exposed above the mattress, in case you want to fill that space with pillows for some back support during the day.Like some have said, the lower trundle is a bit difficult to pull out on carpet, but I'm a 200 pound man and have no issues. The kids can't do it but the wife manages. I prefer it that way, as the lower trundle stays exactly where it's placed without moving all about when it's under the upper or pulled out to use. We only pull the lower out about 2/3 the way since our little 3 year old nephew doesn't need the whole mattress really, and we are often reclining in a couch opposite this bed to watch late night tv as they fall asleep, & it'd cause clearance issues if fully out.The color to me (we got the "Castanho" finish) I find is close enough in color to some of our light oak and pine furniture to not be an eyesore. They didn't have the current white finish back when we ordered this in February 2023 I don't think. Only the Scandinavian Oak and Castanho. The finish is not super-tough, & we already have 3 or 4 scratches, but that's from the nephew tossing larger plastic toys around while playing. If your kids are not too rough, or if this is adult use only, you'll likely find the finish adequately tough. It does SMELL a little funny for about a week or so, but it's completely scentless after about a month, & that could have actually been from the packing materials to be honest.I found assembly easy, except for most people's mentioned requirement to pre-drill the holes in the mattress support boards. Otherwise, they will split I am sure. The support boards seem to be much cheaper spruce or pine and not very dense wood. You will find many of them warping in different directions. I laid them all out after the frame was assembled and separated the ones with the worst warping and used most of them on the bottom and near the far ends of the mattress. I figured this would have the straighter boards supporting the upper, most-often used top mattress better. The bottom mattress would normally have a smaller lighter child on it.The only REAL gripe I have about this daybed is it's almost uselessness as a daytime sitting option. I was hoping with the right cushions or throw pillows this would be like a second couch in the "sitting" room we have it in. It just takes TOO MUCH padding or pillows to pad the back to allow people to sit on this as another couch. Usually you sit on the edge with zero back support, or kids can sit all the way back with just their feet dangling off the side of the upper mattress. It's just really all about the width of the mattress and the bed frame. It's just WAY too wide to function well as an alternate comfortable sitting option. I now feel EVERY daybed that takes similar sized mattresses will be like this. Not really the products fault. But if you go thicker than an eight inch mattress on top, you will likely have ZERO chance of placing pillows towards the back to give ANY back support for adults witting on this as they'd fall off unless it's against a wall. Some people have said this bed is creaky and makes sounds like it's cheap. I have barely heard a noise from it except the occasional bang when a child hits a piece of wood while playing on it vigorously. Just tighten the fasteners adequately, but show restraint if you're a man (or strong woman) as you can definitely damage the hardware if you go ape on the tightening.Overall, I'd buy this again AND recommend it unless you REALLY need extra sitting space that's very comfortable for adults. Kids can manage. Nice-looking piece of furniture!

Nice Bed - Feels Like Being in a Ship Berth
I have this bed in my guest bedroom in my condo but sleep in the upper bed fairly often. No box spring needed. Mattress height for upper bed 7 - 9 inches, while for trundle bed it is 7 inches. I got an 8" mattress for the upper bed, and 6" for the trundle bed (Mattress heights were in 2" increments). I tried the 8" mattress on the trundle bed but it would not close. Two inches of thickness make a huge difference in comfort. I'd recommend getting a mattress pad for the lower bed to put on after you pull it out.Appearance is really nice. With all the wood surrounding me, I feel like I am sleeping in a ship berth. I do use the bed to sit on and watch TV sometimes but it is really too wide to be a sofa and the backrest isn't comfortable without several pillows. I have at least as many pillows on the bed as shown in the picture.Price is good too. I originally saw the bed on another site for about $125 more (price was right around $500; $499 I think). I went to the site to buy it and it was no longer available. I turned to Amazon and found it so I bought it here.It is all solid wood and weighs quite a bit. The package got left on my front porch tipped on the entrance step and I couldn't move it. I opened the package and moved it in pieces into the house. Room of Choice Delivery would be worth considering. I don't remember seeing it offered when I bought this item.Assembly had many steps and took hours but it was not hard. Everything fit together well and I didn't have to rework anything. I don't recall needing any tools more special than an Allen wrench, which I think was provided in the hardware package.Moving it as an assembled unit seemed really difficult so I did change one assembly step to make it possible to take the bed apart again. It was not my idea; I found it in another review. Instead of permanently nailing the slats to the bed, I bought Velcro tape and used it to attach the slats. It worked really well. It probably added a half hour to the assembly time but it is worth it for when I have to move the bed in the future.

Beautiful Piece but Issues
The bed is beautiful. It is very natural and stands out when walking into the room. The color matches perfectly with the picture and is on point with everything the description says. I’ve had the bed for two months now without any major complaints. However… lets talk about some cons…. The bed arrived with one of the support pieces of the frame cracked through. I ended up securing the crack and hoping for the best so I could avoid returning such a large item. As of right now it hold up but the company has to be more careful with defective items.Second… if you decide to put this together yourself, its easier with two people and two drills. The support layout for the mattress is required to be screwed into place. You are talking about roughly 15-20 board that need to he screwed into the bed frame. Then anothee 15-20 board for the day bed. Without a drill, a lot of time and effort will be needed!Overall, I’m happy with the bed and I do recommend the style of it. It seems secure if all pieces were 100%. I’ll say it is close to being worth the price!
