Solid read
This first book introduces Jessica Jones: an ex-Avenger turned private investigator who seems to live on the fringe of the Marvel universe.Bendis does an amazing job of creating a character that is complex, interesting and more human than the average super hero. Jessica Jones in many ways is in awe of the fantastic world of heroes around her and feels she doesn't live to their standards even though we the reader can clearly see she is at least a good guy if not a hero. There's guest appearances by many of your favorite Marvel super heroes as Jessica goes from case to case.Check out Alias and meet Jessica Jones for yourself. It is an experience to remember

Jessica Jones has gained great acclaim in the past year as one of Netflix's ...
Jessica Jones has gained great acclaim in the past year as one of Netflix's critically acclaimed MCU dramas. This is the comic that inspired it, as well as the leader of Marvel's MAX imprint of comics for mature readers. So, how does the series hold up, 15 years later? The series start out telling you all you need to know about Jessica Jones. She's a down-on-her-luck PI with super powers, who doesn't consider herself cut out for being a super hero. The series wastes no time show casing the violence, sex and swearing that set this imprint apart from the rest of Marvel. Bendis delivers strongly on the film noir aspects of the series, delivering plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing at what's really going on. And Jessica herself is a fantastic and well developed heroine.I would say that this first volume has two flaws, the first being a poor ending to the first story arc. The build up was great, but the ending needed some work. The second was the artwork. While none of the pencilling was bad, you could tell that they reused a lot of the same shots over and over during the dialogue heavy sections. The dialogue itself is generally good enough to make up for it, but it's still worth mentioning. This was a great beginning to the series, and I hope the few flaws will get remedied in Vol. 2.

Great introduction to the original Alias run which the new Netflix show (AKA Jessica Jones) is based off!
This is a reprint of the original Alias run, which started Marvel's M-rated MAX imprint back in 2001. Alias follows Jessica Jones - former low-tier superhero in her life as a private detective. The series is gritty and realistic (at least by superhero comic standards) and brings you to a whole other part of the Marvel universe. Marvel Studios is basing their new Netflix show AKA Jessica Jones off of the entire run, although most of that show will probably be based off Volumes 2-4.This volume is the first of four, and collects 9 issues which introduce Jessica and her life (spoilers: not so great) as a private detective. The two storylines here aren't anything special as far as the overarching plot goes, but the way in which Bendis writes not only Jones but the characters around her help you get a feel for why she's such an interesting and unique character, and one worth a TV show of her own. The writing is great, and the art style is unique and grounded, combining for an unforgettable series.

Wow - well done art and story
I saw an image from this series online and wanted to look into it more. Thank you, Amazon, for the Kindle version - my first graphic novel/comic book in quite a few years. I love how the images show in large enough detail to really appreciate every nuance and read the text, no matter what size. The style is a mix of film noir and superhero, with a heavy dash of vulgarity - or, as I like to call it, reality. When things go badly wrong, a word balloon of Batman proportions just doesn't cut it. I'll be reading more to learn more about Jessica's past, present, and the superhero tie-in.The artwork is beautifully done, the cover of each chapter a work of art in itself. Colors, shading, and subtle nuances capture emotion perfectly with or without text to explain it.

Jessica Jones: Alias Volume 1 Condition
Bought brand new, a few pages came slightly damaged, but I'm not too upset.

Unique take bringing the film noire feeling of early detective films to a gritty "superhero" story
The occasional visits of other superheroes into the story of Alias provides some context for her past working with other superheroes, but their unique abilities don't actually drive the story like some dues ex machine. Instead, Jessica Jones actually has to apply detective skills and sense of realism to her story. And although Jones has to reach out to the occasional fellow superhero, it isn't to solve the case but to deal with complexities that arise out of them, like a video tape with sensitive footage of Captain America left for Jones to find. There is more intense language in the storyline than you'd expect out of a typical Marvel publication, but the grittiness of her story as well as her abandonment of the superhero responsibilities make the language appropriate.

Great cast. However, season one story line dragged on and on.
Great cast. However, season one story line dragged on and on. You can only take so much, they fight, they chase, they fight, something gets revealed, they fight, they chase, they fight, something gets revealed - you get the picture. At the end of season one, you breathe a sigh of relief that FINALLY it reaches conclusion. If season two is written, needs shorter plots: 2 - 3 episodes, then move on. Or develop a story line that carries it beyond just damaged people looking for revenge. Take a hint from BBC or Scandinavian mysteries or thrillers. Character development, complex story develop, shockers of a reveal, sophisticated writing. OK, I have said enough. Did I say he Jessica Jones cast was great! They kept me engaged,

Gritty, with a good heart
That is what i like about Jessica Jones: tough as nails, but a heart big like the world, a great combination. the story is well built, well paced and a good rump.

O quase monocromatismo versus o super-heróis supercoloridos

Gripping and fantastically written
Bendis' writing here brings the character of Jessica Jones to life in a way that is both immediate and refreshing; this isn't an everyday superhero story, it's anything but. The character is compelling in a way few are able to be, and the story woven around her is excellent.Michael Gaydos' art in these pages is stunning; an excellent use of striking colours helps bring this world to life, not to mention the expert work on the panels of the story; set up in such a way to entice and retain suspense.

but the character development and thriller-esque tone to the comic is brilliant and compliments the series nicely
A very dark and sexy comic. To be honest, I did start reading it because of the Netflix TV series, but the character development and thriller-esque tone to the comic is brilliant and compliments the series nicely. I really like Jessica's character and whilst the tale has its origins in dark romance and mind powers, the sci-fi fantasy aspects of the story are more underplayed in the comic. A good one from Marvel.
