Suitable for beginners!
It's very cheap! Suitable for beginners as practitioners. I checked some playing techniques and spent an hour making it sound, and tested that every note could be played. I am a beginner who has never been exposed to this instrument at all. It requires a lot of practice to play every time, but I am surprised that it sounds! The comment on that star indicates that the bottom hole is not in the middle, and I need to prove it for Xiao. The structure of Xiao is like this. In order to facilitate the pressing of the little thumb, the bottom hole will be placed in a left or right position, depending on the user's preferred hand. It is extremely unfair to give it one star because no investigation has been conducted. This is not a quality issue! This is its own characteristic!

Will be returning again
I really loved the sound of this and found it easy to play... Unfortunately, it began cracking along the acryllic right away. I thought maybe it was just creaking because it was breaking in... But the second time I went to play it I realized that the crack extended all along the body. Got a replacement... Same thing, cracking right away that immediately changed the tone and will soon make it impossible to play at all

Great flute, incredible value
The media could not be loaded. This flute is incredible. This is the easiest end blown flute I have played (I also play Iranian ney and Japanese shakuhachi). The video is after a few minutes of playing. The flute is very well made, though there was a slight bur on the blowing end (where I am pointing in the photo), which was slightly irritating when playing. This was easily remedied with very light sanding.I keep an eye out for cheap musical instruments of good quality, and this is among the best. I highly recommend it.

Arrived cracked
Purchased this as a cheap fun flute to add to our collection. Unfortunately the flute was cracked in two different places upon arrival. We received the item this way. Not happy with this purchase.

Super hard to make sounds
It requires that you blow in a special way, otherwise, there will be no sound.

easy to play left-handed
I"m seriously in love with this xiao instrument. (xiao is pronounced like the first part of the word shower - shaow-wer) This xiao is in the key of "G" and is a smidge over 21 inches in length, which is supposed to be the easiest to handle with minimum finger stretching. The seller ships this xiao in a cardboard box for protection and it comes in two pieces which makes it easy to clean. I straightened out a wire hanger (oh no's!) as a pushrod for a piece of cotton shirting from the rag bin. But living in an arid climate , I'm not so worried about mold caused by moisture buildup inside as much as playing it frequently to keep it very slightly moisturized to reduce chances of internal cracking from drying out YMMV. I threw the included little carry bag in a drawer, not wanting to break the xiao down except for cleaning and travel. I was able to reasonably sound clear-ish notes within an hour of practice. There's a video on youtube titled "How To Play End-Blown Flute, Rim-Blown Flute" that is a closeup of lips playing the xiao I found very helpful. After a week of practice during tv commercials, I've got Do-Re-Me-Fa (1,2,3,4) down, but still slogging thru the fingering change for So-La (5,6) without loosing mouth position (youtube video "Full Scale For Xiao - Low, Middle, and High Registers"). Helpful hint - the ring finger on the lower hand stays parked and the middle finger of the upper hand stays mostly parked. As for the quality of the instrument itself, there were no sharp or unsanded edges on the holes or mouth. The workmanship appears to be very good, the wrapping are tight and even, it's in key, and the price is outstanding for a beginner/intermediate instrument. BTW, I took the chinese knot ornament and threaded the top loop thru the two side-by-side breather holes at the base, then drew the knot thru the loop so it's attached. I'm a a senior citizen who's never played a wind instrument before and I have COPD, so if I can play this , so can you! It's fun to play, weighs less than and is more portable than a guitar or keyboard, the dogs want to sing along, you don't need to know how to read sheet music because Jian Pu musical notation is reading 7 numbers, (youtube "How to read Jian Pu"), if you lose it you won't cry - much - and, bonus, it's great for low-stress sustained exhale breathing exercise as well as a form of meditating - and - double bonus - being a unique instrument in the West, it's a great conversation starter. I would recommend this xiao and this seller to a friend and to an Amazoner in a hot NY minute.
