Its special design allows for either a horizontal or vertical orientation. (If you put it near a wall or corner the bass response will be enhanced) These two equal options are allowed due to the fact that the Solo II's control panel can be rotated. If you want to change the orientation of the radio, simply grasp the ring around the control panel and turn it 90°. This means instant convenience, regardless of the space you are in. In addition, the Solo II's unique snooze bar allows for a temporary reprise from either of the two available independent alarms. Designed in a continuous metal band that stretches around the unit's body, when users need a little more sleep they simply reach out and touch the metal rim around the front of the Solo II. This is easily done no matter how sleepy you are, and regardless of the chosen horizontal or vertical orientation. This delays the alarm for ten minutes. Each additional touch of the rim increases the length of the snooze alarm delay by 5 minutes. The maximum delay is 60 minutes. The display shows the time and a flashing alarm icon. To see how much snooze time is left touch the metal rim once. If you touch the rim again another five minutes is added to the snooze time for each additional touch. To cancel the snooze function press the button for the active alarm. 20 Station Presets The Solo II has 20 station presets. The presets can be used to store either AM or FM stations. Because of the way the Solo II places stations in the presets you may want to plan how you store them. Here's how it works. The first station you store goes into Preset 1. The second station goes into Preset 2 and so on, up to 20 stations. If you remove a preset all the stations in presets above the one you removed, drop down a preset position. Connect Additional Devices The Solo II is not limited to AM/FM broadcast content. Other audio equipment, such as an iPod or a portable CD player, can be connected to the Solo II through the rear panel auxiliary input. You will need a cable with a stereo mini plug (sold separately) on both ends. Select the Aux input using the mode control. Love it! What a GREAT clock radio!
Wow -- what an incredible clock radio! We had just purchased a Sangean RCR-22 AM/FM Atomic Clock Radio but had to send it back. That unit was defective, plus the sound quality was pretty miserable. This Boston Acoustics Solo II, however, is an amazing clock radio. It is not very large but has a great sound. I'm a musician and am quite picky about sound quality. Of course this is not as good a sound as a full stereo system, but the sound is incredibly clear and warm and has a lot of depth for the small size of this device. It does not distort even when it is turned up quite a bit.The user interface is simple, especially after you get the idea. The unit has 20 station presets and 2 alarms. You can snooze by just touching anywhere on the metal rim. The more you tap the rim the more time you get to snooze (up to 60 minutes max). I really like the fact that it has knobs to turn on the front. Large, easy to use knobs instead of little buttons to press to turn volume up or scan for stations. It has an auxiliary input for mp3s and NO ipod dock (YAAAAAYH!!!!). It also has a capacitor to keep the clock going when unplugged or when the power goes out. While the radio is on you can choose to display either the time or the radio station. You select the mode of 'Info' to set this. (We had to work with it a bit to get that setting to work right.)Some people are complaining about the brightness and it is a bit brighter than some clocks. If you are very sensitive to light you might think it is bright, but it goes down pretty low, we thought. I love this clock radio so much I would just put some sort of tinted film/plastic over it to dim it if that were a problem for us, as some other reviewers have suggested. We don't listen much to AM radio, so I can't comment on that, but the FM reception and sound is superb. So glad to have sent the Sangean back because we really do care about nice sound and this unit is smaller but sounds significantly better. The Sangean does not even come close to this unit in terms of sound quality. Plus, the Boston Acoustics user interface is simpler to use and the build quality is better. The Sangean came defective but the Boston Acoustics Solo II is fine. This one just feels more solid. We are very happy with this purchase.

Fits it's niche beautifully (if not quite perfectly)
I am one of those people who loves good, solid sound, but is not an audiophile. I can't even speak audiophile-ese.It sits in my bedroom where I actually very rarely listen to the radio. I go to bed late, and my wife is usually snoozing away, so not so much time to test the sound.Recently, I've been working from home more, and took this radio downstairs to my "office." I listened to it for four hours at a greater volume than the low-level volume at which I usully listen. Not loud, exactly, just substantial. This experience gave me an appreciation for how terrific the sound from this unit really is. Vocals are clear as a bell, bass is solid - not wall-shaking or rumbly, just ... solid.Taking it downstairs and then back upstairs is easy because of a unique and wonderful feature - it's ability to hold a charge without a separate battery. Very, very handy feature.Waking to high quality audio is surprisingly weird. Disorienting. Hard to explain. It's like waking up on the floor of a concert hall where an orchesra is currently playing. I actually use the non-music alarm setting. Some have said it's not an "FM" radio, but rather only appropriate for AM listening. I would like to prevent anyone from taking this too seriously. For an office, bedroom, or any situation where you are near the radio, and where clutter is undesirable, this monaural radio will deliver "FM" music at a quality that is far above that of any "AM only" radio.I find the controls confusing and access the instructions more often than I like. In fact, I usually lose track of instructions for this kind of thing, but I would suggest holding on to them.Worth the money, IMHO, if it fits within your budget. Obviously, not one of life's necessities, but a nice, mid-level, luxury item.

Excellent Table Radio
I bought one of these from Target a while back, and when I went back to buy a second one, they were gone. So, I found one here at Amazon at a reduced price. It was actually a used or "Previously Owned" item, but at a fairly reduced price. Upon inspection, it was obviously opened and sent back for whatever reason. I gambled and hoped it wasn't too badly scratched up. To my surprise, it was in excellent condition, saving me quite a bit of cash. Nothing was missing. The radio and controls worked as expected. When you attach a good quality antenna to the back of the radio, the reception is superior.Pros: Excellent sensitivity and selectivity. Low noise. Excellent auto dim for lighting conditions.Cons: No easy (one button) way to set sleep mode. You must rotate a knob to scroll through a menu to set the sleep mode. Not a biggie, but could be simpler. Volume control - see other reviews on this topic already discussed. Not a real problem.I highly recommend this radio for those folks looking for high quality reception at a reasonable price.

A very good daytime usage clock radio
The sound is every bit as good as they say, but the radio control dial requires lights on, glasses on, for middle of night adjustments. The illuminated screen is very bright even with brightness turned down. The dial lettering is small and tricky to adjust in spite of the brightness. It has the earphone jack that I was looking for.A very good daytime usage clock radio.GE used to make a "Nite-Jammer" radio that had ideal touch intuitive buttons. The sound quality of the Boston product and the button controls of the Nite Jammer would be the best.

Better than expected
The sound on this little radio is fantastic. I'm using it as a clock radio and I'm extremely pleased. The only peculiar feature is the snooze which is touch based. It sometimes takes about 10 seconds to respond.I'm so impressed with it's performance I'm thinking about getting another one for my office at work.

I really like the sound et the channels pre-selection
I really like the sound et the channels pre-selection. But mine makes a little "buzz" sound when it is turn off which annoys me at night. I've put it in my kitchen.

Good if you like to listen to static.
This Boston Acoustics was:1. Not obvious to use. Controls are eclectic.2. Static (not due to reception) introduced by circuit. Terrible.

Better than my husband's model from a few years back
Great sound as expected from Boston products. Versatile. No regrets.
