I can tell you it’s not made in the USA as Gerber makes it quite clear on the products that are made in the USA My guess would be China but I don’t know. However I wouldn’t let that stop you from buying it.

Is this too bulky on a keybak retractable keyring with other frequently used keys?

I need replacement blades

I use Dewalt Carbon blades. A little mpre expensive but they last longer. I haven't had any trouble fitting all type blades in this thing though like most say.

Any way to make it a little easier to open?

I didn’t find it difficult to open however you can take it apart and oil it up, that may help.
