Can heat beads be used with this device instead of water?

Hello, do you mean small metal beads such as the Lab Armor™ beads from ThermoFisher Scientific? No, unfortunately our water bath is equipped with a safety measure which turns off the device when no water is present. You could fill the water bath with a small amount of water to prevent this, and add the heat beads on top of this, but you would still need to add water periodically.

can this be used continuously for 3 months at 110 - 115 F or 42-45C?

Yes, this water bath can be used continuously for 3 months at 42-45°C. You just need to periodically add water to the vessel as the water bath will automatically shut down if it is out of water.

Can this be used to melt chocolate?

Not directly. You can only use water to fill the water bath, then you can use a second container floating on top of the water to melt the chocolate.

What size test tube rack will fit in the water bath?

They list the dimensions of the inside as "Internal water vessel dimensions: 6.5x4x4 inches". The one we received measures about 6 inches by 3 inches at the center and about 2 inches wide towards the ends. It's tough to give exact measurements since it is oval shaped.

Great bit of kit

Used it a few times now to keep 10% KOH at 50C to clean insect specimens and works well. Have had to improvise a means of keeping test tubes upright in the basket but that is straightforward. Recommended.

Piece of junk - broken display and turns off

First time I used it, the LED display broke (see photo). It also just turns itself off now and then, so you can’t rely on it.

Not a UK plug

There is no mention that I can see of what the plug is so beware. I'm not even sure which country it is from as it has 3 pins on it but it's definitely not for the UK. Had to return

Stopped working after once use - hopeless

Crap. Used it once - all fine. Next time not heating at all. Hopeless product. Doesn’t merit one star tbh

Not a stable temperature

The temperature regulation is poor, set for 75 degrees peaked at 83.7 degrees C and generally moved around between 73 and 82 degrees. To call it a scientific instrument or lab quality is a complete misnomer as it is no even close to accurate. The leaflet claims a temperature fluctuation of +/- 0.5 degree C more like 10 degrees C, which is very disappointing. Oddly the temperature fluctuations seemed somewhat random given the constant room temperature and testing with just water. You can get a more accurate baby bottle heater.

No UK mains plug

Seems a good piece of kit, but mine arrived fitted with a European mains plug.
