Good battery life. Works most of the time.
I lost my wallet with a FOFA attached. After I gave up looking for it, I pressed the button corresponding to my wallet FOFA on the FOFA attached to my key ring. I went around the house pressing the number over and over to no avail. I found my wallet later that day. It was under a piece of paper on the kitchen counter. I found I could get within three feet of it with my key ring FOFA without setting it off. I switched them and found I could get within three feet of my key ring FOFA without my wallet FOFA detecting it. More experimentation showed both the FOFAs had to be elevated higher than the level of the kitchen counter for them to work. The counter is the solid surface type polymer composite type with a fiberboard backing. There is no layer of metal in it.I've also found my FOFAs forget which number they are. I have to reset them by pulling out the battery drawer, reinserting it, then entering the assigned number a second time. This seems to happen whenever I'm in a hurry to find the item my FOFA is attached to. Of course, they won't work when they have forgotten their number; you have to find them in order to reprogram it.Nevertheless, I use FOFAs because their radio wave technology is different than most key finders and all of them have their drawbacks. Also, their battery life is good.

Paid for itself by saving my keys! (update: though don't expect it to last)
[SEE UPDATE AT THE END]I've always been prone to forgetfulness, and the morning routine usually included 5 minutes to find the keys. But now I have a toddler whose job involves hiding stuff (and he's very good at it - too bad he can't tell you where...)The FOFA XD has been an absolute lifesaver on several occasions. But more importantly, it's a daily time saver. I never spend more than 30 seconds "looking for" my keys, which really just amounts to walking over and picking them up no matter where they are. I loved them so much I got another set, and taped one to my remote!Pros:-each key fob is both a transmitter (activates other key fobs) and receiver (beeps when activated to help you find it).-control up to 36 locators (there are only 6 buttons, but you can have 6 "sets")-the receiver beeps loudly when activated, and the range is decent (about 1 room away in my experience)-the transmitter also beeps when you're within 10 feet or so, so no worries if the receiver is buried in the couch and you can't hear it-batteries have lasted 3 months so far without a hitch-flat back, which allows good placement of velcro tape and positioning on just about any surface (remote control or phone... but see cons)Cons:-though very light, they're a bit big/thick... about the size of an electronic car key/starter. Makes your keychain bulky and the remote a bit unwieldly (but still worth it). However, I can't imagine wanting to attach this thing to a phone...-On one occasion the buttons were activated in my pocket. Not common, as the buttons are recessed and hard to hit accidentally, but on that occasion it resulted in the unit being deprogrammed. I didn't know it until the next morning, when I couldn't find my keys...-the little LED flashes when activated, but is so tiny that it's basically useless. Though the beeping is loud enough, I doubt the blinking light would be of help if you're hearing impaired.UPDATE:The original batteries lasted about 6 months before dying. Also there was no warning that the batteries were failing. Could be annoying if they failed when you really needed it (likely to happen...) but then again I'm probably a heavy user and normal battery life might be better. Replacement batteries were about $1/ea here on amazon.UPDATED UPDATE:It wasn't the batteries. The longevity of these units is terrible. I've now gone through 3 sets (a total of 6 transmitters) and they have all died after 6 months use. Thus the 3 star review (on what would otherwise have been a 5 star product). I'm leaving the three stars, since at $25 per 6 months it's still cheaper than replacing the keys...

I'd be lost without them!
I am legally blind and if being forgetful were a crime, I would be illegally absentminded. I first came across this product years ago when they were being sold through Radio Shack. I went back to the store recently to discover they were discontinued and was heartbroken until I found them here and realized that the company was still in business but had simply dissolved the relationship with Radio Whack (that is not a typo). That being said, I can tell you that this review comes with years of experience behind it and I must say that I have used several different types of "key finders" and this product puts all the rest to shame. The fact that the finders find each other is a huge improvement over the ones where you must have a "base" to find the fobs. What happens if you lose the base? Or what if the base stops working? So that feature alone makes these finders worth their weight in gold. They are loud, and they are reliable as long as you make sure the batteries are good in each of them. The batteries last about a year and replacing them is very simple. Just keep in mind that every time you remove the battery the fob needs to be reminded of its number again. This is not a big deal. The programming is very simple. As soon as you put the battery in, the fob will beep. Then just select the number that you want assigned to that particular fob and it will beep a confirmation. Easy Peasy. I have gotten very creative with the uses for these little gems. I drilled a very small hole in the plastic of my asthma rescue inhaler and attached one using the supplied cord. I bought an eyeglass chain for my glasses and looped one onto the chain. When I'm wearing the glasses I just tuck it into my clothes and nobody sees it unless I want them to...but at least now I can find my glasses. For items that are disposable such as cigarette lighters, or for items that I don't want to or can't attach a fob to (such as my favorite pen, my ATM card that never stays in my wallet where it is supposed to be) and my cell phone, I have secured a rubber band to the loop on a fob and wrap the rubber band around the item. I think the most unusual use I have ever found for these fobs is when we adopted a kitten who was very shy and would hide. We put a fob on his collar so we would always know where he was until he adjusted and became the king of the house that he is now. So basically the purpose of this review is to show that these things are useful for much more than just lost keys. I hope this helps someone out there. I know they have certainly helped me. I would be LOST without them. HAHAHAHAHA.
