Excellent Irish Cookbook
We had one of the best dinners ever at Aniar in Galway, Ireland. The chef from Aniar wrote this cookbook. The history of Irish cuisine, the information that accompanies the recipes is terrific. This cookbook is epic!! Loved it.

Weirdest recipes
This was not for me. Wanted an Irish cook book, but the recipes didn't look very appetizing.

Incomplete recipes -- what the hell?
I have now made over a dozen dishes out of this cookbook, and every single one of them has issues. This is for VERY EXPERIENCED COOKS ONLY -- I can fix his recipes in the moment because I have been cooking for decades, but a person of average cooking knowledge cannot use this. It regularly leaves out steps; does not explain the steps it provides; and misjudges bake times. It was a gift for my husband, but he honestly can't use it, every recipe flops for him because he doesn't have the experience to recognize JP McMahon's bad (or missing) advice and correct for it. For example, one dessert recipe calls for eggs in the ingredients list, but the directions never tell you when to put them in. There's a pork loin recipe that says "score the skin." If you don't know, pork loin "scoring" has to be VERY deep cuts -- about 1-1.5"! Most people will think of "scoring" as light crosshatches, but he doesn't tell you that, and your pork will not cook. Another cake recipe said 30 minutes at 350 when the cake has 2.5 sticks of butter in it and fresh fruit. WHAT? I knew that cake would take an hour at 350 to be done, because I'VE MADE CAKES BEFORE, but perhaps JP McMahon never has? I can't believe this was published with at least one major flaw or typo in every recipe. And I can't believe how many people gave it good reviews. They must just like the look of the physical book? It is pretty. And also useless.

Its got some really great recipes
We love Ireland and visit often. Where ever I go in the world I try to get a local cookery book, but in Ireland the book shelves were just full of celebrity Irish chefs cook books and that wasn’t what was look for.So I was delighted to get this book which is full (in the main) of recipes that ‘Mammys’ would have made, old traditional basic recipes and some more refined. Lovely pictures which I think helps you to acheieve the finished product.

Good book
To begin with this book is very well made, I really enjoy getting inspiration out of it for traditional Irish foods (especially the breads). The only thing I’d say about this book is some recipes featured are questionably Irish. Apart from that brilliant book and a great addition to any cook book collection.
