Where can I get refills of sponge?

As of today (9/28) there is a listing on Amazon for 2 refills for $10.99 for this Yocada mop - right below the description for the original mop. Hope that will work for you!

Can it be used without attaching the brush?

sure, you can use it without the brush, if you need to clean stubborn stain on the floor, you can install the brush into the mop.

What is the spongy part made of? I have smooth concrete floors and need something that is more sturdy than the foam that is often used. Thanks.

I think that the sponge part is more sturdy than the typical "bright yellow" sponges that come with alot of the spongs mops. I have used mine to clean granite tile shower floor and although I have only had the mop a few weeks the sponge is holding up just fine. Being that said, even though it is more dense and firm than typical drug store sponge mops, it is a sponge and it is porous so eventually it may wear out.
