I used foam backer rod and stuffed a couple of 1-2” pieces in the section between the lamp and the ground stake that get attached and then screwed the stake on. Then I caulked in and all around the area from the foam backer rod to where the wire comes out of the top of the stake and wrapped some masking tape to hold it all in place until the silicone thoroughly dried (2 days in my case). Then good to go. The lamp is sealed from ants and bugs (at least I think so). Have installed the lamps and we’ll see how well the diy sealing works to keep out those’d pests. Start with the one closest to the transformer. Also, check to make sure the transformer is working. Otherwise, ask Amazon to accept a return. **Q: Can you hook up 2 kits (24 lights total) on 500 FT of 12 gauge using the 15 volt connection on 300 watt transformer?** A: Yes & No. Yes, you can hook up 24 of these on 500ft of 12 guage to a 300 watt transformer. But NO, NOT to the 15 volt connection. These should be hooked up to the 12 volt connection of your transformer. They are 12 volt lights. If you hook them to the 15 volt connection, you will burn them out. FYI: You can calculate how many lights a particular transformer can handle. These lights are 4 Watts each. So 4 X 24 = 96 watts. So a 300 watt transformer is more than sufficient to power 24 lights. (There is some loss with long runs of wiring. But your choice of 12 guage wire, as apposed to the thinner 14 or 16 guage, was a good choice. It will minimize the power loss of your 500ft run.) **Q: are these dimable?** A: I doubt it, They have to be powered by a 12v transformer, I haven't seen a variable voltage tranformer **Q: is the ground stake metal?** A: Yes. It is made of pot metal and is strong.
