Pays for itself. I think so and here is why. Been drilling metal, mostly steel, all my life. I have worn out tons of drill bits over time and I am only a hobbyist. On current project drilling a small set of drill bit sizes over and over for a year now I still get good performance from the select bit sizes I frequently use. 1/8" pilot comes to mind as I use than on everything to get started. Yep still on same bit. I decided to use an old 4oz can I save for tapping this past year on drill bits. This greatly improved drilling performance and as noted extended drill bit life. Like the results with drill bits so much, I started to apply to metal cutting bandsaw, steel cutting chop saw, etc. This is why I purchased the 16oz size of Tap Magic. I pour it in four squeezable oil bottles with needle type tip and keep one at every cutting station. Love Tap Magic.

Works very well. Keep the drill speed where it needs to be and keep some pressure on it and you'll be getting ribbons of solid metal dancing around your drill bit. I gave it to the guy in the fab corner of the shop and he said it works great but smells like a dead turkey when you're drilling. Not sure how he came up with that comparison, but I will admit it does smell pretty funky as you drill.

This for me, a DIY/hobby welder/fabricator changed my entire perspective on drilling/tapping oil. In the past I've used multiple types of oil, motor olive, vegetable oil, light machine oil, WD-40 etc... this performed 1000% times better. I tested it out using a drill press with a ½ cobalt drill bit (mid grade bit) drilling through 3/4 mild steel flat bar at 500 RPM's. It drilled through it like butter. I only had to apply a small amount of fluid pre dill and only once halfway through the drilling. it's a good size bottle for the price and it works fantastic! I highly recommend it

If you're using this in manual machining operations (as I generally do) then all you need to do is keep the tool wetted. Like other light cutting fluids, TM works by two mechanisms: cooling the tool by evaporating (which carries away heat) and by lubrication, reducing friction between tool and work (which prevents heat from being created in the first place). Tap Magic does these things VERY well, on a lot of materials which have reputations for being difficult, like architectural aluminum, copper, titanium... I bought a quart metal can and made it last ten years, despite the fact that I use it constantly in my one-man job shop. Now it comes in a plastic bottle, and in honor of buying a new one, I made myself a magnetic brush-holding lube container. (a common project among machine shop folks, since there is exactly one on the market, it's plastic, and it's quite meh) - Did I mention I love this stuff? The only time I use anything different is when machining plastics, where soapy water works best and is guaranteed not to attack the resins.

Tap Magic cutting fluid is superb when used properly with a slower drill speed. It also works great to remove markings made by using a wax pencil, a permanent marker, and dye that are often used during lay out. I don't trust any other fluid with my drill bits and hole saws when drilling into any metal. Watch for smoke. That makes it an obvious sign that either too much pressure is being applied or too much speed is being used.

Friction reduction will help bits & blades last longer!
