Icebug Men's Pytho2 BUGrip Studded Traction Trail Running Shoe

And really, first ice run of my life. We got 4 inches of snow, then an hour of 34 degree light rain, then an immediate drop to 20 degrees. Everything froze solid. An inch of ice covered every surface around. This is in South Korea, for reference. I was excited for my first frozen run with my Icebugs (bought them 2 weeks ago, because I knew this was coming). 3 miles, including a 400 foot high hill that had a nearly half mile downslope that was frozen and poorly lit at 5 AM, ice covering 85% of everything (the few road intersections where it had been heavily salted made up the rest, asphalt), and nary a slip was had. Surefooted, even confidence inspiring. The only part that was treacherous were the solid ice balls up to 4" in diameter strewn through my poorly lit path. Stepped on a few of those and tweaked my ankles slightly, but even with the reactions to those, the Pytho2s never so much as skidded. And they handled the asphalt with aplomb, just the weird sound of the studs clacking. They sounded like suckers on glass being removed quickly. Or bubble wrap being popped. Either way, great buy. The only downside was the insoles, which seem thin and really kind of weak. I pulled out my Brooks Ghost insoles and put them in instead, perfect fit, and they're exceptionally comfortable. Five stars all around, love these things. Oh, and they're water resistant (have yet to get so much as damp on me, and I've run them through slush and puddles too), and look pretty cool on top of it. Love these shoes.

I love the concept and the shoe looks well constructed and durable. However, I couldn't stand in them around the house for more than an hour. In a trial fit they immediately felt uncomfortable to stand on, as if the sole wasn't padded enough. That's odd, I thought, because I spend most of my time in a pair of Five Fingers SeeYa which have almost no padding, and these shoes felt less comfortable (standing on carpet, no less!). It turns out that one of the BUGrip studs was directly under the ball of my foot and causing a pressure point.Perhaps on soft dirt, snow, and mud that wouldn't be a problem. But I was not willing to risk running these outside when they were so uncomfortable in the trial fit. Returned them.At the same time I bought a pair of Icebug Spirit5 OLX which have a different kind of stud that does not retract and has a smaller profile. There is zero sensation coming through the sole from the studs. I kept this pair and will review after running with them this winter. It's too bad, because I liked the idea of the retractable stud that would work in the mixed conditions we have around here (snow, ice, rock, dirt, occasional pavement crossings). And the Pytho2 has a wider sole that was more comfortable for me.

I had to order Men's for the width. Women's were only available in 6, 6.5 or 10.5 and only came in medium width anyway. My only problem is that they do rub on my left heel a bit, but changed socks and hopefully this will help. These shoes are GREAT on the snow & ice. I ran a 5K Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving, snow & ice all the way and never slipped.

I ran a spartan super in these shoes and they worked great. The only negative is some of the studs fell out which could just be due to the harsh nature of the course and climbing on rocks.

The other reviews hit the nail on the head on how great the running shoes are. DO NOT BUY THESE IF YOU PLAN ON RUNNING ON THE ROAD! The studs are not designed for it; these are trail and winter conditions running shoes only. Great ones at that.

I ran with this shoe for two winters on a mix of ice, snow, and gravel trails. They performed extremely well until the material of the shoe started to split at a stress point in the forefoot. I would attribute the failure to normal wear and tear as opposed to a defect.

I purchased these for my husband as he has gone down twice on the ice this winter and it seems that moving the ice cleats to different shoes takes too much time. According to him these shoes are comfortable and the carbide tips do not pose a walking hazard when on polished cement or linoleum inside unlike detachable ice cleats. Our icy driveway is no longer quite as treacherous. He is looking forward to actually using these on the trails when all the snow finally melts!

Iceburg really knows how to create an effective snow and ice running shoe. We run in the mountains of colorado all year long. In Spring, with the low humidity, snow only melts in the direct sun. The rest turns to solid ice! These shoes allow you to run seamlessly on ice, snow, rock, and dirt -- all brilliantly. While others are taking off and on their Yak-Traks or Kahtoolamicro-spikes, I just keep on going. Thanks Icebug!

Leider gab es den Schuh nicht mehr in meiner Größe, aber nächsten Herbst werde ich ihn mir sofort bestellen.Diese Schuhe haben wir für meinen Mann bestellt, und er hat sie bei der ersten Gelegenheit bei Eis und Schnee ausprobiert.Er hat sofort über den Tragekomfort und die gute Griffigkeit auf Eisflächen geschwärmt.Die Schuhe sind angenehm bequem, und man bekommt keine kalten Füße.Man spürt die Stifte nicht. Aber wenn man auf trockenem Asphalt läuft, geben sie ein unangenehmes Geräusch von sich. Außerdem werden sich wahrscheinlich die Spikes bei längerer Nutzung ohne Eis und Schnee schnell abnutzen. Es handelt sich also um Spezialschuhe für den Wintereinsatz. Es gibt sie einfach die Winter mit diesen langen Zeiten unter 0°C, bei denen man kaum oder nur auf Asphalt zum Laufen gehen kann.

Da schliesse ich mich voll an.Die Schuhe sind 1a, kein Wegrutschen auf hartem Schnee, Eis oder Asphalt, sie erlauben auch bei rutschigen Bedingungen ein hohes Tempo. Bei Schneematsch oder Tiefschnee sind ist der Icebug vermutlich gleich gut/schlecht wie ein Trialschuh. Bei tieferem Schnee empfehlen sich Gamaschen dazu. Auf Asphalt sind die Schuhe echt laut, etwa so wie wenn man in tiefem Kies läuft (wer das kennt), aber 1. höre ich beim Laufen Musik also krieg ich davon nichts mit und 2. halten sie auch auf Asphalt wunderbar und sind erstaunlicherweise nicht rutschiger als Schuhe ohne Spikes.Das Obermaterial ist dicht gegen Schnee und Wind. Soweit immer warme Zehen auch bei minus 10 Grad.Deshalb sind sie für mich im Winter ganz klar Wahl, auch bei wechselnden Untergründen.Heute Nacht friert es wieder, freue mich schon auf meinen Morgenlauf mit den Icebugs ...

Der Icebug Pytho2 trägt sich bequem. Die Schafthöhe ist allerdings nicht für Schnee über 15 cm geeignet, da sind dann die Gamaschen von Nöten. Die Sohle mit den Spikes ist sehr gut für den Lauf auf Eis geeignet, stellt aber keine Lebensversicherung dar! Also ich hatte, da bei uns oft die Wege vereist sind, noch keine Probleme während dem Laufen. Das Abbremsen selbst geht auch, aber man(n)/frau muss aufpassen, damit der Grip gesichert ist. Die Dämpfung reicht für mich als Pronierer sehr gut aus.

Habe schon länger eine Auge auf die Icebugs geworfen, weil sie bei Glatteis und Schnee richtig Grip zum Laufen haben. Der hier ging zu einem vernünftigen Preis an den Start! Habe bei allen Laufschuhen US 9 = 27,5 cm. Die Phyto 2 haben in 9 28 cm. Geht aber im Winter mit dickeren Socken.

Habe mir eigentlich neu Schuhe bestellt. Was ich da bekommen hab, waren gebrauchte dreckige Schuhe.... Am besten gar kein Stern vergeben...
